It’s that time of the year. No, we’re not talking about Christmas, but rather the announcement of 2024’s entries into the Lego Speed Champions range. This series of kits shrinks down real cars into a pretty affordable set of caricatures that make for good desk fodder, with our highlight of 2023 surely the 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline GT-R.

Next year doesn’t (yet) include any film cars, but will see the debut of a Le Mans racer in brick form. The BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh car, as raced in IMSA this year with a WEC debut for 2024, will be sold in a two-pack with a BMW M4 GT3.

Both have matching liveries (each with the number 1 on, slightly frustratingly) and with a pair of minifigures - one male and one female. All-in, this set will consist of 676 pieces.

You’ll also be able to grab the new Ford Mustang as a standalone kit, more specifically in 500bhp Dark Horse trim. The 344-piece kit doesn’t look to use too many stickers either, which is always a welcome treat.

Rounding out the first wave of additions to the Speed Champions line-up is the Audi S1 e-tron quattro, better known as the Hoonitron. It’s the smallest of the new kits - with just 247 pieces - though arguably has the most eye-catching livery (and presumably the heaviest reliance on stickers). We are a tad disappointed there’s no minifigure of the late Ken Block included, though.

The 2024 Speed Champions range has so far only appeared on a sole European retailer - JB Spielwaren - with single kits at €26.99 (£23) for the single kits and €49.99 (£43) for the BMW dual-pack. It’s worth noting that’s a €2 and €5 rise respectively over the 2023 kits.

If that’s reflected in UK pricing, expect the usual going rate for Speed Champions kits to rise too - currently at £19.99 for single cars and £39.99 for twin packs on the official Lego store.
