2000 Subaru Impreza P1 - No 7 of 1000
322bhp 330lb torque , car build number 7 of 1000 Ex Prodrive Press Car (search Impreza P1 Top gear / 5th gear and it’s my car being raced against an Evo) . This power is being made with a standard P1 turbo (VF 25?) and standard injectors , top mount intercooler. The following upgrades have been done….. (This is all being run on 99RON petrol)
Forged Block , Rods, Pistons, STi V9 Crank, ARP Studs, ACL Stealth Series Bearings, Cosworth Gaskets, Modified P1 Head (Polish/Ported) ,Hayward and Scott full CAT sports exhaust, Full bespoke road map done by Bob Rawle (BRdevelopments),”JDM” rear lights with foglight mod, Prodrive/Alcon front calliper upgrade with 330mm Godspeed 2 part disc and hub config, Nardi STi Wheel, Blitz Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Boost Gauges, Blitz Turbo Timer/Inlet Temp Sensor, Falken Tyres , Felix the Cat sticker.

Are the P1 and 22B the same thing?
P1 was done by Prodrive and the 22B was done by STi.
22B has the 2.2 engine and wide arches and was done in 1998 with about 440 built world wide with 12 GB models, the P1 was a later car and high demand raised it’s production numbers from 500 to 1000. The P1 was a UK only car.

They are a rare set of silicon Prodrive one’s. The original “stone deflectors” were just too small.
All the suspension is bespoke to the types of roads we have in the UK. It means it really holds the road, but isn’t harsh on the back.
With a 0-60mph time of roughly 4.5 seconds in it’s current setup with a close ratio. short ratio gearbox, it really goes like a rally car!

Hey! Fellow Brit. I love the P1 Subie. Not a lot of people know about it because they’re somewhat less iconic than the 22B. It looks clean for a 15 year old car. Did you buy it new or used? And how much did you pay for it?
Hi Adam, I bought the car in April 2011 for £6000. It had 108,000 miles on the clock (currently 126,000 miles). It needs the rear arches sorting out due to rust, but a few hundred quid should tidy it all up. I only got it back from the mechanics last night and it’s now got what seems to be a vacumbe problem and has triggered the “check engine” light.
Due to a spinal problem, I have never been able to clean or work on my own car, but my Poppa is an ex professional car detailer and has put in countless hours making my paint look as good as it could. This car has lead a very hard life as Prodrive were the first owners of the car. My car featured in a lot of the magazine shoots and TV appearances, while it’s sister W874JDA is a lot of the promotional material and a DVD with Clarkson.
When I got the car, it was in a really good condition, but was a little cliche and chavvy. I eventually swapped the Blitz NUR-Spec R exhaust for a full Hayward and Scott system, which was slightly smaller but much quieter.
There seems to be a lot of snarky comments that come from people who own the WRX STi Type-R’s ( the JDM 2 door version) as they will say their limited edition of 400/500 cars means that the P1 is just not as rare, where in fact their cars just have a different sticker on it. The P1 is more than just suspension, the removal of the DCCD system and a complex set of diffs and LSD’s have improve the on road presence of the car. Also the P1 had bespoke shocks which make it a beast on UK roads.
I live in Oxford, which is about 18-20 miles from where Prodrive were and are based in Banbury. So I drive my car on a lot of the roads the development cars were driven on in and around the factory. The P1 community are really good at helping me with finding things for my P1 as it is “famous” within their community and they want to help preserve one of the lowest remaining numbered cars on the road (mine is build number 7 of 1000 units built) I think about 350-400 P1’s no longer survive, so the value of the P1’s is going up. If I were to get the rust dealt with, even with a high milage car I could get about £8000-£10,000. Mechanically my car is really strong due to time and money invested in uprating every aspect of the engine, oil and fuel systems of the car.
I am planning on getting some 18” P1 wheels in gold, as my dream has always been a 2 door Impreza in WR/Sonic Blue with gold wheels!
Spent £860 on getting my P1 back on the road yesterday and there is now a problem with the ECU causing the car to stay in limp mode. Was a loose pipe on the BOV, but even with it back on and even after disconnecting the battery for an hour, the fault is still showing. Mechanic came round to my house and his fault reader didn’t work on my car. Getting pissed off that I can’t bloody drive my car after it being off the road for most of this year and last year!

Thank you for saying so DragzMRS. A lot of the magazines of the time say that the P1 was the best best driving/nicest driving classic shape Impreza’s. The 22B while be more iconic, is a very edgey car that can get unsettled on the UK roads in the wet if the DCCD is set up wrong for the conditions. Also the JDM cars were stiffer in the wrong places (I think the P1 has a stiffer rear end and softer front end) which helped with the rebound and front end traction of the car. I know a few people who own both a P1 and 22B and they prefer to drive and really enjoy the P1 on a much more frequent basis.
