1992 Mazda Mx5 NA 1.6 Black edition
Hi all,
There is my cherish 92’ Mazda Mx5 NA 1.6L.
As the Ax16 is a great light FWD car and driving school, my Miata is a great RWD one, plus add a gorgeous body works and a plain brilliant handling and road holding ability.
The Mx5 is a “bigger project”, still a dual duty car as I want to use an profit as much as possible of my cars but with a load more potential.
The Mx5 base is great for that, a perfect mix of fun and all the ingredients for a first class sport and even race car!
The low CG height, the double wishbone suspensions, RWD, 50/50 weight distribution, great gearbox, small package => PERFECT!
Bigger will be heavier (not true for carbon tub car), “dragier”, less fun, more expensive etc… but the GT86 is very nice ;)
My special car come factory from Hofu and with tan leather interior, trunk carrier, VLSD, manual rack and manual windows so all the luxury things withouht lazy people and heavy things (every power assisted …. things)
I add, 6 speed gearbox, Torsen Typ2 7” Diff, both from the same 2003 NBFL 1.8 svt Mx5.
A 3Y manifold, decat, Cobalt catback exhaust (nice parts) and a 1mm head skim + vernier pulley to perfectly times the camshafts.
For the suspensions and tires, Michelin PS3 (very very competent tyre! I love them!)
Bilstein B6 from NB 10th anniversary, converted into adjustable height coilover with 350 and 250 lb/in springs+ Racing (COT) bumpstops.
The car body movement are well controlled, the damping is good and stil compliant.
Track use is good, the roll is still here but not as potentially confusing as stock. (no more boat style rolling)
And the bumpstop engagement is SOOOOOO much more progressiv and tyre grip friendly.
Some chassis bracing will come soon (Butterfly in addition to the Hard dog)
The brakes are not forgotten, I put stainless steel piston to definitly get rig of pston “blocking” and add the very great Carbone Lorraine RC5+ brake pads, front & rear + a willwood adjustable rear brake pressure valve, a MUST for making Mx5 decelerate honestly!
A corrado Set up still with CL brake pads is coming.
I took all the best from NB Mx5 and put it into the superbe NA one.
