1988 Porsche 944 Turbo S

I bought this 944 from Ohio in September 2015 and shipped it to California. This car is such a nice car to drive, most of people do not realize that in 1988 this car was faster than almost anything on the road. Not to 60 in 5.5s, better than a Testarossa. This chassis is so well balanced, it’s the perfect car for me. I enjoy driving it out of the city. Inside the city, the ‘ON-OFF” effect of the turbo is a bit tricky, and the engine sounds like a Golf 2 90s but the is so much to love about this car…

The car is at the moment at a Porsche specialist garage in San Diego to make it smog legal in California. I thought the car was stock, but turned out the DME and KLR chips were aftermarket custom ones resulting excessive NOX emissions. Found a new stock set trough Rennlist and being installed now. The garage also found that the waste gate had been shimmed with two 8mm washers at each mounting bolt, resulting in very agressive boost delivery. They set it up back to stock configuration.

That’s a clean bit of history right there. What area of Cali are you in?

Really? Nice! Mine only had one cosmetic detail that I really dislike. Those forged wheels have been chromed, and originally they are just painted. I would like to have them back painted, but it looks like it so complicated to de-chrome wheels…
Do you have photos of yours?

Are you considering to put on euro rear bumpers?

I know they look better, but the car is in US now…so I guess it will stay stock for US market. Only thing I will do is to de-chrome the wheels.

I love these cars. I had an 85 N/a in champagne gold. Was a beautiful car and drive like nothing else. I miss it.

Good thing with a 944, you can either race it, make it a daily driver, or make it a garage queen if you like. This is a very versatile car, and at the end of the day it’s about what makes you happy!

Love the decal near the hood did that come standard for the Turbo S? My father had an ‘88 Turbo non-S but it didn’t have that. I guess it had to be ordered from the factory with it. Which he didn’t do I guess.
