Mini Cooper S 'Works R53 (Supercharged)
Here’s my modified MINI Cooper S John Cooper works I bought in January 2015.
Started life as a box standard 2003 Cooper S ‘Works, had a lot spent on it in a year. All work done by myself apart from the tune as i’d probably blow it up or cause nuclear fallout or something.
- Big Valve head
- SuperCharger Pully 17%
- 650cc injectors
- Front Mounted Intercooler from Airtec (Hoping to get a custom one made from ProAlloy in Cambridge soon)
- Remapped (EMU ECU)
- Cool Air Intake
- AP Racing Coil overs (At their max height for the winter and because where i’m staying the roads are more like fields)
- Aero Front Bumper with colour coded Aero Grilles
- Adjustable control arms all round
- DRL Function headlights with LED bulbs all round
- Standard JCW exhaust with a de-cat (You can’t hear it over the Supercharger anyway)
- OMP Removable Steering Wheel
- TSW 17” Alloys (They’re horrible, I know) with Hancook 235/45/17 & 215/45/17
- Brake cooling ducks
- Upgraded fuel pump
Soon to have a roll cage put in to make it nice and unpractical - In the words of JC, “god hasn’t made a creature small enough to fit in the back seats” anyway, so no loss there.
For the future if have the time/money;
- Rotrex conversion (That’s a lot)
- Dry sump
- big brake kit (The standard brakes on these are really good anyway so no biggie)
How much power does it make? Honestly, I don’t know. It’s had a cooler air intake and FMIC put on since it was remapped.
- Also removed the engine sound proofing which along with the other mods make it sound pretty insane for a 1.6 (See link) - Never heard a M45 (Eaton M45 SC) whine like this one does!

Yumaaay, Do you have a picture of the engine bay? I’m now at 15% reduction but still with the standard intercooler. I’m interested in the front mounted one as it will be easier to reach the engine without the top mounted standard one.
Hi, it won’t much. With the airtec front mount it goes in to the original intercooler pipework, and then comes down in front of the radiator. So it make it a little easier but no much. Definitely worth it though.
Somehow you appear to have no name!
Nice car though and very loud supercharger whine.
I now have a name. ;)
Is this mini going to be a track spec’d build or weekend fun?
Bit of both, I need it for traveling every day so can’t really risk smashing it up, but in the summer I can’t see why not!
How many HP has it got?
Honestly i’m not really sure. North of 260. t’s the throttle response and instant boost that makes it really go.
