1999 Lancia Delta HPE 1.6 16v

Back in the days in the 80s of Group B rally, the Lancia became famous because of the dominance of the Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the Lancia Delta S4. Nowadays, the newest and 3rd generation Lancia Delta’s kinda looks like… as Jeremy Clarkson once said.. like beavers (I agree with him). But between these 2 generations (obviously), between 1993 and 2000 the 2nd generation of Lancia Delta excisted. It didn’t make it to top gear, nor did it gain much ‘glory’. However, I’m a proud owner of this second generation of the Lancia Delta which I’d like to share with all of you today.

Here in the Netherlands this car used to be sold in with 3 different engines. The choices kept changing during the years of production, so I’m just going to point out the 3 that was available late-1999:

  • 1600cc 16v (mono injection) (103HP)
  • 1800cc 16v VVT (Variable Valve Timing) (Multi injection) (135 HP)
  • 2000cc 16v HF Turbo (200 HP)

I’m the proud owner of the 1600. I gotta be honest, I just can’t afford the HF version. It’s not just the purchase costs, but maintining it is quite expensive. And don’t forget about the roadtax and insurance costs. The 1800cc may sound like a nice alternative, but I don’t hae much faith in the reliability of the Variable Valve Timing feature.

I own this car for a year and a half now and I’m still very happy about it. Its not just the speed, but also the elegance, comfort and uniqueness on the streets. Like every petrolhead, this car has made some modifications by my hand. I bought this car completly stock. Here are the list of upgrades/changes to my car:

  • Zender bodykit
  • Supersprint exhaust tip
  • 40mm lowering springs
  • Xenon 8000k headlights
  • LED city light
  • Rine 337100 GMR+ 15inch rims
  • OMP strutbar
  • BMC carbon airbox filter
  • Recaro interior
  • dashboard from an 1.8 (it comes with voltage- and oiltemp guage)
  • Climair wind deflectors for the side windows
  • Upgraded Ferodo brake pads and discs (4x)
  • Custum MDF shelf
  • SSI performance chip (should bring the car up to 120 HP)

What is left to do:

  • Tint the read windows
  • Find a better exhaust tip

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my story and checking the pictures and wish u all a good day and drive safely! I’m new to CarThrottle so I hope I’m doing this correct…
