My short review of the Renault R4.
My grandfather used to own one of these bad boys.
It was an 80s model he purchased in 2009.
Similar to the one in the picture, but with more rust.
It was a daily beater.
The car has a 29 BHP engine with front wheel drive.Might not sound like much, but with it’s 800kg,it is fairly lightweight.
It’s high speed is around 120 km/h,but grandfather never drove it over 60.
Even at lower speeds, the noise inside was horrible, since the car didn’t have any sound isolation.
The exterior has some curvy lines, which I love.
The rounf headlights are the only ones that would look good on this car.
Also,it’s suitable for a roof rack, which adds to the looks. (Other than just being usefull)
A thing that I loved was the interior.
Minimalism at it’s finest.
A few buttons,a clock and 3 ashtrays.
The example I drove in had a classic German cassete player which gave it even more retro character.
A thing that pops up was the gear stick.
It was placed right next to the steering wheel.
For an experienced driver shifting the 4 gears that way wasn’t a problem.
For a rookie, however,it isn’t the most practical thing to do.
At the rear seats it was quite spacious.
Might not seem like that in the picture, but 3 people could fit in with no problem.
The trunk was also spacious, with enough room for an average weekly shopping.
The only weakness this car had was the reliability.
All I could say is that having a mechanic as a neighbour and a friend came in quite handy.
But rethinging it,maybe it was just the years doing it’s job.
To sum up,it was a good car.
Something I would definitely own myself,as a restoration project.
A few facts about the car that my grandfather owned:
-It had replacement seats,refurbished.
-It was paid 400€
-It was made in Slovenia
-He originally wanted to buy a Beetle, but it was out of his price range (1200€+ at thet time).
-My little brother was brought home when he was born in that car…Ah,time for a feels trip…
Anyways, let me know what you think about the car and my review. :)

Great review :) pls more
Thanks! :D
It’s one of a few cars that I daily drove in,so I don’t have a lot to review. XD
Loads of these in tunisia :D
3 ashtrays lol! We recently bought a mondeo that has been smoked in, so now we’re looking for an ST220 to use the interior and stuff lol. Also it’s crazy how long that renault was produced. It must have been outdated while it was new (like the Ford Anglia)

What be that tag for?
Hehehe
I know Colombians have the R4 deep within their culture, it’s the car of the people.
