Can someone please explain why people are obsessed with SUV's and crossovers nowadays? Who else is against this trend/movement?

i hate them all theyre horrid to drive they have no flavor or passion their slushy none hardly are sold in manual.
They are also more expensive, and worse in almost every conceivable way…
As a fan of small cars I’m not against it but I do dislike it. All these huge trucks look like they’re trying to eat me on my way to work.
I oppose to them because they are absolutely pointless - they are more expensive, thirstier, slower, and worse handling than the sedans/wagons that they typically share the same platform with. They don’t even have that much more space, if at all, than a wagon.
I agree that crossovers are stupid but my family has a Volvo xc90 and we use it to tow trailers and there’s more cargo room(taller)
Yeah, there are a few exceptions like the XC90, but most of them do not have enough extra space/usability to justify all the drawbacks.
I don’t matter at all that trend about SUV’s… actually there are some that are cool. But I don’t get the idea of having a crossover. Is just something expensive, ugly and non-fuctional vehicle… And with this picture I’ll show you that this trend is just starting
Actually, the V60 Cross Country makes more sense… But it’s still basically just ruining every aspect of the car in terms of efficiency, speed, economy, handling, and charges buyers more money.
I don’t mind SUVs… In fact, I would take a cheaper SUV over a pickup (ie Chevy s10 Blazer or Jeep Cherokee) simply because of the winters here, it is nice to have a covered rear end where I can keep my guitar instead of letting it freeze in the back of a pickup. I hate crossovers though… You might as well just buy and SUV because they are completely pointless with no benefit over and SUV or a car
Good point, but most SUV’s are just used as city runabouts, wasting money compared to other cars. A wagon will be able to serve all the purpose that a typical SUV owner demands, since they never go offroad, all at a lower price.
I don’t understand cross overs at all its silly, and SUVs aren’t bad but there’s too many of them out there
I don’t get why crossovers are so popular… They combine the worst of SUV’s and sedans/wagons. The buyers supposedly want a “high” seating position, but why?
Here’s why: -Sits up higher and offers more visibility than a sedan -Can be more comfortable with a bigger suspension -Ground clearance and 4x4 or AWD make them much better in bad weather or light off-roading -Offers more cargo space (think of them as tall station wagons or hatchbacks)
Crossovers actually used to be what everyone in the US drove at one point before the “sedan craze” in the 50’s-60’s, now we’re simply going back to the crossovers everyone had in the 40’s. Does it suck for us car guys? Yes. Does it suck for your average American who just wants to get from A to B as comfortable and easy as possible? Absolutely not.
The BMW X3 was actually not as comfortable as a 4 GC; the X3 felt very bouncy, and jumped around when it hit any bumps, the ride was not as subtle as the 4 GC. All-weather usability for 4x4’s are better. Cargo space, they don’t have that much more than a wagon; another BMW example, X3: 550L trunk, 3er wagon: 500L. A Volve XC60 had almost the same cargo space as a V60. Keep in mind, a crossover costs more to buy, and more money to run. But ease of access, getting into and out of crossovers are a bit easier.
Comfortable? What is this thing?
That’s why I love my Forester, you sit up high, loads of space in the back and do not need to worry about snow. Also there are also many crossovers that are fun to drive, CX5, Forester XT, Country man John Cooper works, X3 35i are all very exciting to drive. It is not a disaster for car guys.
Wait… Going back to the 40’s… Does that mean that in a couple of decades we’ll have even more iconic cars?
Sedans and cars almost always ride and handle better than SUVs of CUVs so your statement about comfort is incorrect. They have a higher center of gravity which necessitates a stiffer suspension for stability.. Ride over a pothole in a CRV then do the same in an Accord.. the accord swallows the bump so much better while the CRV pounds it. We have both so I know. The accord rides and handles so much better and still has a ton of space. The real world MPG and especially highway is much better on the Accord also.. dramatically so.
I liked crossovers in their early days (1995 to 2004) when it was not owerflowing of these small, compact suvs. But now I am so bored seeing these
I feel that they really caught on after 2008. People complain about gas prices, but they buy crossovers that inherently use more fuel than a sedan or wagon because of their mass and aerodynamics (and AWD in some cases).
I hate it when people buy crossovers just to be cool. Coughcough soccer moms.

I’m trying to convince my mom to buy a pickup truck to replace our Honda Odyssey once it’s time to replace it, wish me luck ;)
I would say if you are not hauling or towing anything, stick to a minivan is still a good idea.
