Can someone please explain why people are obsessed with SUV's and crossovers nowadays? Who else is against this trend/movement?

I absolutely hate them. Not all to be precise, proper 4x4 and all wheel drive suv’s and crossovers don’t bother me that much, but I despise those who just look the part. What’s the point of a fwd suv such as a Kia Sportage or a fwd crossover? Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against fwd as a layout for a daily driver but it has nothing to do on a crossover or an suv

Other than that I think that they have poorer performance, worse fuel economy and in some cases even less trunk space then the equivalent station wagon

As a guy who owns the world’s largest consumer SUV with the biggest engine I guess I can offer my opinion on why I love mine

First off my main reasons for having it is because I need a vehicle with at least 8 seats, can tow large amounts, has 4WD, and has decent clearance.

I have to expand on what I said about towing though. I need my SUV since I have a fiberglass sailboat on a 40-45ft trailer. I couldn’t tow that with any crossover, or wagon safely. People always say you can tow with smaller vehicles but it’s just not safe… i’ve tried it before.

There’s nothing better than putting a boat/rv on the hitch, loading camping equipment in the rear and roof, and pilling 8 of your friends/family and going on a camping trip.

I also love it since it rides very smooth and I feel like i’m piloting my own land yacht. There is never a point when i’m driving down the road that I feel threatened by other stupid drivers. They make you feel very safe. I never feel like that in my tiny little Toyota.. and especially not on my motorcycle.

They are just such nice vehicles to have.

They even come with huge V8s that you can tune to be fast. Mine does 0-60mph in under 7 seconds!

But crossovers are pointless because they cannot match SUV/trucks’ capabilities.

You and people like you are a very small group of SUV owners who use them to their full potential. Most owners just use them for their daily commute which you’ll have to agree is pointless

Exactly! I’ve got a Ford Expedition EL, which I use as like a camper (I put a mattress in the trunk area with the back row folded down that I sleep on), own a trailer on which I pull two ATVs, and I also drive it in the snow each winter. I hate it when people buy my rugged SUV to carry around their kids.

Actually how do you classify crossover and small SUV

Both are pointless and a waste of money.

Ugh, don’t get me started on stupid CUVs or SUVs. With CUVs you get a crappy compact car on stilts with terrible gas mileage and poor handling for the price of the premium midsized sedan from the same manufacturer! The midsize is a MUCH nicer car, much better deal.
Small CUV: High center of gravity, poor aerodynamics, heavier weight, smaller interior despite what you think. Overblown cargo space measurement (anything above seat height is NOT useful storage space when the seats are up as they are 99.9% of the time)
Midsize Sedan: Low CG, excellent aerodynamics, lighter, usually much more interior space. Trunk separate from your passengers (quieter better insulated, more useful storage, privacy, etc.) Need to store long objects? They all pretty much have a fold down back seat these days, and more horizontal storage space than a CUV either way.
Mazda 6 Sedan - 40MPG highway, better interior, better front and back seat space, better handling.Mazda CX5 - almost a second slower to 60mph, and 30 MPG highway with the same engine! That’s 10 less! much lower skid pad

Simple. Todays sociality has less testeston produceing things. And SUV ads promise more adventure. Les testotoron means that people are more scared by others. And a high driving position makes them feel like they are higher in rank, thats why Monkeys and other animals like to sit high. Also big high suvs can replace there own natural strength, same with shoeing of wealth. Btw les testotoron means smaller things.
