The Tesla Model S P100D Is No Match For A McLaren 720S

The P100D may be stupidly fast, but it doesn't have an answer for the 710bhp McLaren 720S

The Tesla Model S may be known for hassling almost every supercar going in YouTube drag races, but it seems even Ludicrous Mode can do nothing to overcome the might of McLaren’s 720S. Watch the video above from DragTimes, and you’ll see what we mean.

In the two standing start drag races, the P100D does initially get the jump on the McLaren thanks to all-wheel drive traction and the kind of instant torque delivery associated with electric motors, but it’s soon passed by the petrol-powered car. It’s the same story on the final, rolling drag race, with the 720S needing even less time to blast by the Tesla.

All hail the McLaren 720S: the new king of YouTube drag races!

The only way the Robots are gonna beat the Internal Combustion army, are with the Rimac Concept One, or the Aspark Owl.

Now that’s unless you throw a Wild Wing RS into the mix. (Mario Kart players will understand the next bit.)

The time it takes for a Wild Wing RS to reach top speed, depending on the size of your wedding vegetables, can be as low as 20 seconds dead. (That’s 0-257 mph, with a Mercedes M120 V12, 6 litres, 746 bhp, with a kerbweight of 705 kgs, AND RWD, AND Natural Aspiration, AND a 6 speed manual, WITH a full tank of petrol, and the fuel tank is 135 litres, or 30 UK gallons alone!) Sure the Tesla, Aspark, and the Rimac will have it off the line to 60, since the Wild Wing RS will do it in 2.7 seconds, but when it reaches 60… you’ve pretty much had it.
