These are starting under 2000£ in good condition and relatively low mileage.

Alfa Romeo 156 V6

#2 Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6

With the famous 2.5L “Arese” V6 under the bonnet, the Alfa is good for an official 192hp, but it was revealed that the engine produced actually a sweeter 210hp. The 156 being relatively light, it’s able to reach 140mph top speed and reach 60 in 7.9sec. You could get one of these for less than 2800£.

Mercedes CLK 230K

#3 Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor (W208)

The likeable CLK is packed with the 2.3L compressed inline 4 and the classic coupe body shape, and is good for 200hp. Plus, you’ll look like a fresh grandpa’ behind the wheel, but you’ll be able to get to 140+ mph and reach 60 in 9sec (what a real grandpa’ doesn’t try). These are selling for around 2800£ and the vast majority is standing in really good conditions.

Volvo C70 T5

#4 Volvo C70 T5

In this version, the Swedish tank is equipped with the mighty 2.3 liters turbocharged five pots packing 240hp. Nowadays, the T5 is one of the best bang for your money you can afford. You’ll be able to get the keys of one of these for at least 2900£.

Opel Astra Coupe

#5 Opel/Vauxhall Astra Coupe 2.0T

Last but not least, the Astra in its coupe form will let you get 204hp out of its 2 liters turbocharged DOHC four pots. It’s also actually really capable thanks to its lightness, and will do 150mph easily, going from O to 60 in a quick 7.4 seconds. It’s also quite mod-happy, and getting one will set you back to just 3000£.

This just proves that you can have great fun with relatively powerfull cars even with a tigh budget.
