15 reasons why Petrolheads need to stop hating on the Alfa Romeo MiTo

As a 2 years MiTo owner, I decided to write this article to defend my sweety little car face to the growing community of MiTo haters. I hope you guys will like it :)

Let’s go !

1. The Counters
They look great, they are in Italian, the counter needle move around when the car starts, they end to 260km/h. Remember your childhood, it’s the only thing that matters!

2. The way it looks
The car looks brilliantly sporting, old school and modern. Its shape is yet 8 years old.

3. Girls love it
If you are a girl ; well, good choice great car ;).
If you are a guy; just ask your girlfriend what she would think if you buy and drive one.

4. The handling
One of the worst lie on this car!
This car handles pretty well. It is light, low, and fit really huge type of tire for a pretty little car: 215/40 R18! You really have to try one.

5. The 3 driving mods are brilliant
The Dynamic one does really give you a smile, the car reacts quicker, the steering become harder, the turbo (if you got one) spins faster, more fuel injection, the brake and spring become heavier.
The All Weather mod literally welds the car to the ground, in numerous bad condition. Particularly in the snow.
The Natural position transforms the MiTo in a fuel efficient vehicle, with a lighter steering, and smoother drive.

7. Fun as hell on snow!
Go in a parking, put the Sport mod on, and let the Q2 do all the work! Yes, this little thing has an electronic slip differential on it! On snow it is just extremely fun to drive, e-brake turn, 360° donuts, never loosing traction. With the MiTo forget the famous “one wheel spinning” so annoying on snow.

You don’t believe it? Ok, find a MiTo owner friend and a snowy place. Put first gear, steer to the right, and put full throttle. Then let the magic appear!

8. The equipment
Yes the car seems to cost a bit more than other city car. But this car get a lot of standard equipment for a starting price of 14 500 € :
3 driving mod, selectable by a simple switch (try finding this on 2007 cars, at this price!) ; Ground lighting under doors ; A/C ; Electric and defrosting mirrors ; Cruise control ; Start & Stop ; Hill holder (the car keeps on brake on hill start) ; Variable traction control ; Electronic slip differential Q2 ; 4 disc brake with Prefill ; Fog light ; ESP ; Mp3 radio ; A REAL SPARE WHEEL ; Electric windows with one-touch control for driver AND passenger…

9. FIAT background
Many people complain about this FIAT generation Alfa Romeo. It’s true that these new cars may have lost a part of their soul. But the passion is still in. The MiTo (and the Giulietta too) clearly saved Alfa Romeo of dying. The MiTo and the Giulietta are REABLE car! The FIAT engine bays are ones of the most advanced technologically and have proven their efficiency and reliability.
Search on the internet how does Multiair engine work, it’s just amazing !
Without Fiat the 4C would never be born (carbon body with "FIAT" ENGINE and ELECTRONIC).

10. But The MiTo IS STILL an Alfa Romeo
Yes, I agree, the major part of the car is taken from the Fiat Grande Punto. But the car got clearly its own personality. The Punto Chassis has been improved, the car is smaller and also lighter than a Punto, and the steering is more reactive, the suspension is harder. Its design remembers numerous old school car, and look like a small and cute 8C (which isn’t an Alfa too, just a re-badge Ferrari then ^^).

11. The Quadrifoglio Verde Brand
170hp, 1100kg, 1368cc, turbo charged, bucket carbon seat, green belt, adaptive suspension, sequential or manual gearbox !

14. The Insurance cost
The MiTo, for all motorization and power, is really cheap to insure compared to other car with the same sporting specification. It’s due to their efficient Multiair or JTDM engine, their FIAT spare part but also for the fact that not many MiTo exist on the road (so less steal and break problem)
