There’s Now A Nurburgring-Themed Version Of Monopoly And We Need It Urgently
A game will probably take much, much longer than a lap of the Nurburgring, but this is what we’ll be doing over the festive season…
The Monopoly board game is a classic, and it’s had a similar number of special editions as the Fiat 500. This is the latest version of the lengthy, argument-causing game, and it’s themed around the Nurburgring. Why? Well, why not?
We’re a little bit disappointed that it’s not in the shape of the Nordschleife, but otherwise it’s an accurate representation of the racetrack that produces our favourite crash compilation videos. Players compete to buy sections of the track instead of London landmarks, so you can nab Flugplatz, Steilstrecke and Schwalbenschwanz and then charge your opponents a fee every time they land on it.
The iconic Karussell is the design for the middle of the board, and it’s also the most expensive corner on the map, costing a princely €400 in in-game paper money. Lesser-known corners start from €60. You can also land on areas like the grandstands, much like the four railway stations in classic Monopoly.
A new set of figurines has been introduced specifically for this Nurburgring version. Instead of being an iron or a cannon, you can choose between things like a tyre, wheel gun, racing car and a helmet.
If this is the way you want to spend your time off over the holiday period, you’ll need to head to the Nurburgring website and spend €44.95 (about £38 or $50). You’ll need to bear in mind that the set is only available in German, so you’ll either need to speak the language or be willing to learn in a very specific way.
After playing the game, you’ll know how to say ‘go to jail’, ‘free parking’ or ‘collect €200 when you pass go’, which could be useful…
