10 Of The Longest Car Names In Automotive History

Coming up with a name for a new car is way more complex than it might seem. Carmakers spend a lot of time, money and effort to find suiting names, based on strict criteria: The name has to express the car’s character, mustn’t have any odd meanings in other languages, and most importantly, should be easy to remember and pronounce. But even if the original name of the car is fine, it will usually get longer and longer - thanks to new engines, new drivetrains, or simply Special Editions. Here are some of the longest car names in history - and I promise, they will roll right off the tongue

#1: Land Rover Range Rover Evoque 2.0 TD4 E-Capability 4x4 HSE Dynamic

The first example is the Range Rover Evoque. A good name to begin with, but as mentioned above, way too many additions have been made to it. Good luck fitting this badge onto your tailgate…

#2: Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce Roadster

Expensive supercars are obviously affected by this phenomenon as well - although most rich people will probably appreciate this, as their status symbol is of course WAY cooler when it has a 51-letter name.

#3: Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI ecoFlex

Not quite as stunning as said Lamborghini above, but still with an impressively weird name: The Opel Insignia Sports Tourer bla bla bla. Good luck fitting the 45 letters and 7 space characters onto the rear of this wagon.

#4: Mercedes-Benz R 300 CDI DPF BlueEfficiency 7G-Tronic

The R-Class is a quirky Mercedes to begin with (check out Doug DeMuro’s video on it), but this name is just unbelievably weird.

#5: Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 B Lungo Cabriolet 4 Posti Castagna

To be honest: I have no idea whether the picture above actually shows the right car or not. There were a quadrillion special editions of the Alfa Romeo 6C, and Google gets kinda confused with this mile-long name…

#6: Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon ti 2.2 JTS 16V Selespeed

I have to admit, the 6C is pretty old - so you may think that Alfa has since gone back to shorter names? Well… No. They just haven’t, as this 159 Estate proves.

#7: Renault Trafic Grand Combi 2,9t Energy 1.6 dCi 120

Moving on to this French van, I don’t exactly know what I like less: The color or the sheer endless name.

#8: Citroën Grand C4 Picasso e-HDI 110 EGS 6 7-Seater

Still a family car, still from France, and still with a tailgate-filling badge: This is Citroën’s Grand C4 Picasso minivan, with a lot of unnecessary abbreviations added to its name.

#9: Lincoln Continental Mark V Landau Four Door Hardtop

This car is freakin’ huge. And so is probably the badge with the name. But hey, at least they didn’t use any confusing abbreviations!

#10: Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid

And last but not least this hybrid Porsche Panamera, which caused a lot of discussion when it was presented on Car Throttle. My render of how the car would look like with this actual badge on the tailgate became top comment ^^

So guys, I hope you enjoyed this post - I’ve had it lying around for quite a while and now finally decided to finish it. Sorry for being not very active at the moment, but I got an Xbox One S with Forza 7 for Christmas, and I’ve gotta say, it’s a very addicting game… Full verdict coming soon!

Thanks mate! I’ve gotta say, Forza 7 is AMAZING. I’ve been a Gran Turismo fanboy ever since, but as the new Gran Turismo Sport sucks (at least in my opinion) I convinced my Dad to switch to Xbox - and neither him nor me are regretting it!
