Aston Martin GT8/GT12 Comparison

With Aston releasing its brand new GT8 “track centred car” it got me wondering what would be a better choice if you had to buy one…. like I would have the money to, but anyways lets leave that behind…

Firstly The GT8

Based off the V8 Vantage, the GT8 is the lightest and most powerful V8 vantage to leave the Gaydon headquarters. The car features the same 4.7 litre power plant, with the boffins at Aston R&D stoking the fire to produce near enough to 450BHP, boosting output by around 25 horse power, The car also comes with the option for a 6 speed manual, YAY, or a 7 speed flappy paddle AMT gearbox. The Key Performance increase in the GT8 lies in its new bodywork and chassis. The new car features an almost complete Carbon fibre bodywork with Aston being quoted as saying its “race bred and not just for show” How exciting….. Some tweaks have been made to the Suspension geometry, the car getting a tauter suspension all round, and new 5 spoke rims wrapped in pilot cup 2 Rubber. But the Major advancement compared to the normal V8 is the aero package. Firstly, look at it, BIG wing, diffusers, a monster splitter, for a track day who could ask for more.
Price: £165,000
Power: 450BHP
0-62: Unknown, I would say between 3.5-4 Seconds

The GT12

Another Vantage based track car…. Released in 2015 it is based of the top of the range V12 Vantage S. The Car once again features a stoked up 6 Litre V12 producing 590 horsepower, bringing 4 more cylinders to the fight really does bring better things, Seriously dont believe anyone who says that bigger isn’t better. Aston have followed a pretty sensible order here so i feel no real need to ramble on. They have stripped around 100kg out of the car, given it better suspension and more power pretty reasonable formulae wouldn’t you say…. So lets just get the stats up
Price: £250,000
0-62: 3.5 Seconds
Power: 590BHP
Torque: 461lb-ft
Weight: 1565kg

So, If I had robbed many banks, and “acquired” the money to buy one, What would I Buy…. Lets some it up, Having not driven either of the cars its quite a hard decision to make on looks and stats alone. Of course there is the hefty price tag of almost 100k more on the GT12, but then again it is a limited run with only 100 built. The stunningly powerful heart of the GT12 is just such and attraction to me, but then the V8 will be more refined as its Astons second crack at a “track car”. But to me, The GT12 has to take the cup, it features arguably the best v12 noise in the world, its powerful, and to me there is something that just doesn’t look right on the GT8, and really you cant pass on a v12 In my opinion, especially considering its the last of the pure beating hearts of aston before this “twin Turbo” thing comes in….

Cheers for the read
