Is the Tesla roadster going to be the first electric Corvette?
Intro
Before I explain my crazy thoughts, a quick side note: Warning: Opinions about EVs ahead, proceed with caution…also I’m going off of what Tesla has provided so far, so don’t shout at me in the comments for not making accurate statements, I’m limited on supplies :l
With that out of the way, let’s get on with it
Actual Intro
Unless you live in the stone ages, you’ve heard about the new Tesla Roadster. It’s a 2 seater, all electric targa that Tesla claims it’ll do 0-60 in sub 2 seconds, and a top speed of 250 mph, all for just $250,000. Now if what Tesla’s claims are true, then that will make it the first electric production “Corvette”
The reason I say it’ll be the first electric “Corvette” is because of the specs, it’ll undercut the closest competitors by at least 3/4 of a million USD. That’s insane. In fact, the closest performance from an EV would be the Rimac Concept One, which sells for $980,000, which doesn’t accelerate as quickly, has a lower top speed, and doesn’t go as far on a charge. According to Tesla, the second gen Roadster has an estimated a lot of HP and a dead planet starting amount of torque. Although the Corvette might not have that kind of power (After all, the most powerful one only has 755 of the stuff), it’ll still be on par with whatever stuff the world wants to throw at it. Think about it, the new ZR1 has more power than
A Lamborghini Aventador S (and SV)
A Ferrari 488 GTB
A McLaren 720S
A Huracan Performante
A McLaren P1 (on gas power alone)
A Pagani Huayra
A Lamborghini Veneno
and so many more, all while costing about $130k, undercutting the others by at least $200k
That’s what I think Tesla might be trying to accomplish with this Roadster, is to be the fastest, most powerful “budget supercar” on the market. Now I know that that’s what the Corvette is (call it what you want, but I’m calling it a supercar for this blogpost), but it only tops out at about 210 mph. That is well into supercar territory, however the Roadster takes it one step further by going 250 mph according to Tesla. Keep in mind too that it’ll have a range well into the 600 mile mark too. ALL FOR $250K!!! The last time that there was a car this capable for this cheap was…the C7 ZR1, and the Z06 before it, and the C6 ZR1, and you see the point. The Tesla Roadster is going to be the next Corvette. Now I already know the keyboard warriors are going to say “This comparison makes no sense blah blah blah” and while they are right to some extent, look at it this way: the Tesla Roadster is just like the Vette in how it offers performance for the price that nobody else can manage. And by nobody, I literally mean nobody (I can hear GTR fanboy mumbling in the background.) I mean, to get the same performance from the Roadster, you’ll have to spend almost 4x as much, same story with the Chevy: to get the same performance as the ZR1, you’ll end up spending at least another $250k-300k. That’s why I think that America is doing it right (ish). What they’ve done is they have made power for the masses essentially. Granted, a $200k+ car isn’t really for the masses, but it’s more than what Ferrari and Lamborghini probably manage.
Conclusion
I know this was short (mostly because I ran out of things to say lol), but to sum it all up, the Tesla Roadster is like the Corvette in how it offers huge performance for a fraction for the cost. Also both are Targas and both are American (how about that?) That will wrap things up for this blogpost, if you have any comments or suggestions, leave them below and until next time, catch you all later. Bye!

Will it be as cool as a Corvette… No
It will be much cooler and also smoke every corvette ever made :)
Subjective. But obviously your opinion is truth? Stupid era, stupid age
2550mph? :)
Damn, 2550 mph?
This doesn’t make sense. It might be like a Corvette, but it won’t actually be an electric Corvette unless it’s made and designed by GM.
He didn’t factor in what is under the hood. He only stated that the Tesla roadster has on par performance with much more expensive cars, and corvettes have high performance for cheap compared to competitors.
It will be what a Corvette represents…performance of a high end sportscar for half of the price of its competitors.
Not to mention it costs almost 4x a base C7…
If 2550mph was true (we all know it’s not), it will be the overkill of the Koenigsegg Agera RS, and even the Bloodhound SSC
You know, with Elon also owning SpaceX, that might be a possibility. ;)
Lol let me fix that
But will it be the first electric Covfefe??
Sheeeeeeeesh 2550 mph for 250k… wooooow
No it will not be the new Corvette. A Corvette Stingray is somewhat affordeable. A Tesla Roadster isn’t. As I said, I don’t place much faith in electric driver’s cars until someone makes a good one for the £50k price point (like an electric Porsche 718 or something).
That’s what I was try to say is that it’s not cheap (that’s sort of obvious), but the performance you get for the money is insane, the only other car that does that is the Corvette
The fun of a Corvette is to change out the exhaust, camshaft, etc. Keep that electric thing. Besides … no info on how much the Tesla weighs
I’ve never heard anyone say that about a Vette of all cars

Both are american so its a corvette:D
