What's the best way to get a deeper sound from my e46 330? Was looking into a muffler delete and replacing in with straight pipes.

LS swap. Just kidding. I think strait pipes would make a deeper noice, although check youtube there are plenty of vids with e46s with straight pipes to see for yourself if you like the sound

What about a resonator delete? Looking for quality sound, but straight pipes is just too loud for me.

my 330ci is straight piped, it has an amazing sound on cold starts/idle/tunnels, but it gets the typical inline 6 raspy high pitch sound around 5-7k. a long tube header set fixes that.

Would leaving the cat in also get rid of the raspy sound?

If you’re concerned with being too loud and obnoxious, you could start by gutting youryour cats and if that doesn’t do, get a catback. My e36 M3 has the stock cats gutted out and an Active Autowerkes catback, and it’s brilliantly deep sounding below 4k, but then it gets that BMW higher, raspy tone up to the redline.

I know a guy with a 530i (same engine) and he has cut out mufflers. Sounds pretty good.
