Mazda 3 MPS: Mods and Changes I Want To Make
Following on from my review last week of my 2008 Mazda 3 MPS (MazdaSpeed 3 to our American friends) I thought I would just share with anyone that’s interested some of the modifications and changes I intend to make to the MPS in the coming months.
It’s nothing too crazy just a few bits and pieces, some that I feel need changed and some that I want changed.
Getting It Wrapped
Thinking about getting his car wrapped has given me more headaches than I care to mention. My initial plan was to get the entire car wrapped, not 100% sure what colour (probably some sort of blue) but after doing some research it became quickly apparent that financially that wouldn’t be an option right now.
So instead I have decided that initially I will just get the rear spoiler and the wing mirrors wrapped in Gun Metal Grey to contrast against the silver of the rest of the car. then if at some point in the future I have the available pennies I can look at getting the rest of the body wrapped.
I might also opt for a decal on the bonnet as seen below.
Wheel Refurb and Colour Change
This is something that needs done as the alloys aren’t in the best shape. The car has done 74,000 miles on the same wheels so they have seen better days.
One of the first things I did when I bought the car was actually looking at getting my wheels refurbished and painted Gun Metal grey and I nearly booked it in to get done, then I remembered that I live in Scotland and its winter so there is no point getting my wheels refurbished when the snow will likely arrive at some point and potentially ruin them again. So I’ll maybe wait until March and look into getting it done again.
I reckon I would also get the brake calipers painted. They are currently red but I have an urge to get them done blue…just to be different.
Interior Changes
There isn’t really much I would do to the interior if I’m honest. As I said in my blog last week I am in love with the seats and its got pretty much every optional extra you could want.
The only thing I had thought about was if I get the brake calipers done blue and eventually the rest if the car the same colour, I might get a few bits of the interior trim wrapped in the same blue. Such as the areas around the steering wheel and stereo surround.
Exhaust and Remap
This is the one I am probably closest to getting done as I am currently in talks with a company that will make me a custom exhaust and I am currently trying to decide between a full cat back or just the backbox so if anyone has any opinions on that let me know.
I’m also chatting to a few companies about remaps trying to decide which one I think would suit the MPS best. I know there is an easy 300bhp available so I must choose wisely.
I’ve attached a wee video below showing my current exhaust system…she sounds pretty good but I think I need just a few more decibels.
That Bloody Bridgestone Sticker!!!
Clearly a previous owner thought this looked awesome and, well, I don’t. It will be coming off ASAP.
So let me know what you think or if you know of any other modifications that can be done to this car that I have maybe missed out and I’ll post another update when I get any of these changes done.
Thanks for reading.
Comments
Sorry but to me those mirrors don’t look nice.
Cool.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and looks are totally subjective.
Those are the mirrors that come with the Sports Aero Package on the MPS. Normal MPS modelsc don’t have those mirrors or spoiler.
what mods do you have done already? Because you only really listed cosmetic stuff besides exhaust which you should just save up and go turbo back!
I really haven’t done anything if I’m honest I’ve only had the car a few months.
Most of what I want to do is cosmetic really. I just wanted the exhaust to sound a bit fruitier as I don’t think it matches the performance.
If pennies allow I probably will go turbo back I’m just really playing it by ear.
Wait… You guys have a FMIC on those things in Europe? Because here in Canada the Speed3 comes with a massive Subaru style hood scoop.
The newer shape over here (2009 onwards) has a big hood scoop but not this model.
