7 Cars you can buy in Portugal for 2000£

Inspired by the 2000£ video that CT launched, I thought about what we could really get in Portugal for the same money and made a 7 car list.

1. BMW 318IS

With a starting price at 2000€, its a very cheap way to start your rear-wheel drive additction and leave some marks on an empty parking lot near you. Keep in mind that parts are not that cheap though.

2. Citroen Saxo VTS

Also known as Saxo Cup in Portugal, it was driven mostly by “chavs” back in the day, it now has a bad reputation amongst the police officers. Very nice car to drive, and with its 1.6 16v 120bhp engine joined with low weight, very nimble on the backroads too.

3. Ford Puma

Rated as one of the best front-wheel drive on the market at the time it came out, with its 1.7l 125bhp it can be a very fun car to hoon around or as trackday car.

4. Alfa Romeo 75

Starting at 1500€ for a decent one, its another way to start in the rear-wheel drive world with an Italian flavour.
And everybody knows that you’re not a petrolhead until you’ve owned an Alfa.

5. VW Golf GTI mk3

With its 2.0l 16v 150bhp, you can have an all round car with german reliability. And when your “check engine” light comes on, you’ll have a very bright interior, so missing stuff like coins and lighters won’t be a problem anymore.

6. Fiat Punto GT

The car that every kid on the neighborhood dreamed of. It has a 1.4l Turbo engine with 130bhp and a strong personality. Watch out for the turbo boost on those corners, it can be tricky.

7. Peugeot 106 Rallye\XSI mk1

This little French pocket rocket is a hoot to drive on B-roads. With a reving 1.3l 8v 100bhp engine and a close ratio gearbox, it can be had for as much as 1000€ for a nice condition one.

And here it is! 7 cars you can have, in Portugal, for 2000£. There are other models you can buy for the same amount of money, ones sportier than others.
Hope you enjoyed, feel free to share your thoughts on the comments section.

Cheers!

Since you already put the Saxo, I would switch the 106 for a Hyundai Coupe FX. Very cool to drive, with a suspension that was developed by Porsche, and sometimes you can find the 2.0 on the 2000€ range. Another cool car is the Astra GSI 2.0, wich is by far superior to the MK3 Golf and usually with a low price tag on portuguese market

As i saied, there are more examples that can be bought with the same amount of money. The Hyundai never crossed my mind to be honest, and the Astra GSI is another good example. Thanks for your input.
