The coolest cars in the (Portuguese) force!

I believe the worst nightmare of any car enthusiast is when you’re just minding your own business, and suddenly the police is in your rearview mirror. If you live in a country where the laws are strict, anything is a go when they’re writing you a ticket.
But the police has some cool cars of their own: It’s now all boring VWs and Skodas, or the old tales of Fiat Cromas still being used.
Whether they are a secret weapon against fellons, or impounded cars turned into police cruisers, check out some of the mean machines that the Portuguese police forces use every day!

The party EOS

I might just start with this one. Everybody here has at least once seen photos of the VW EOS that the Guarda Nacional Republicana has. For a car that is made in Portugal, it would be pretty funny if they used these as their regular police cruisers. Unfortunately, I think this one is the only one. Still, it beats the ugly Skodas any day!

Now for something completely different...

The Guarda also has this fine Subaru Impreza, and judging by the numberplate placement, they’ve probably had their share of cooling issues too. Not that you can make it any cooler than busting offenders behind the wheel of this rally legend!

And it's not the only one!

The police also has one. In fact, not too many years ago, a few of them were scrapped, after being used for many years as highway patrol cars. Those were also sporting their stock colors outside, and I believe all of them were Prodrive models. A shame to scrap such nice machinery…

Enter the X6!

So while I was looking up the photos for this article, I learned that the GNR also has this fine example of a X6 patrol car. Looks good! But I wonder if it’s any effective. A pretty sight, nonetheless!

We're getting off-track here...

If you must give chase to anyone anywhere, you better have a Lan Evo around. And that, the police does. I’ve never seen this one live, but what a sight it must be. Evos are pretty rare around these parts.

Now onto the classics!

The police often showcases old cars from their fleet at events. Such is the case of this Porsche 928! I don’t know if it still sees regular duty, but again, it is a true oddity, and certainly it must have some sort of story behind it…

Looking good, officer!

This is one of the most interesting cars from the police force I’ve ever heard of or seen around. Not quite sure what it is, but I believe it is a Porsche 356B Carrera of sorts… Maybe someone wants to shed some light on it? On the other side of the photo, a much more recent but still well kept Audi TT.

And finally...

Saving the best for last, the police also has this Audi R8. I’m not sure if they put it to use or not, but there have been lots of sightings of this car. If you see this on your rearview mirror, don’t be tempted to take a photo, you’ll just get a ticket.

They're cool cats!

Police Leafs are also a common sight these days. So if you run into some shenanigans with the police, check to see what car they drive… It might just brighten your day!
