Good looking Ricer, should we give them a respectfull name?
Voting list of names you thought of will be made soon.
"Rice stands for Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement or Ridiculous Immature Car Enthusiast" both these are from the interwebs and I think a bit outdated.
So as the quote says, the definition of ricer is so lost and outdated that I figure it’s impossible to be proud having a riced car, cars are titled ricer based on taste in most cases, which is a ridiculous reason because taste is personal. If I would do that, all Rocket Bunny and Liberty Walk cars would be named Ricer and most Ricer cars would be Tuners.
So let me show why there should be a new class of car customization.
Ricer car
This is a good looking car tbh, yet it’s named the same way as a little 1.3 civic hatch with a broken exhaust or a Daewoo Electra with a wing.
What gives ricers a bad name are douchebags acting like they have and know everything, even though they know they don’t.
These type of people mostly have a bone stock car (mechanical AND visual) but a broken or removed exhaust makes them think they are fast.
But also if there’s a car with parts that are placed with double sided tape, or parts that are clearly not designed for the car itself, it get’s the ricer name.
Chav car
These are mostly little hatchbacks with a engine no bigger than 1.4 (1.6 if they are lucky)
What gives Chav cars a bad name is the Chav part itself.
Search what chav is and you know what I mean.
Short description, a chav is the next level douchebag.
Sex Spec car
This is a Australian term and it’s of cars with big chrome rims and flashy paint/decals.
I don’t think it’s a term that get used for ugly cars, because australian people are more respectfull (I say this as an european btw)
New Name?
Cars with visual modifications that are made for the car itself without any performance upgrades in it should deserve more respect that a “rice” car does.
What describes a car of this class?
You know the scramble scene from 2 Fast 2 Furious? I think you do, in that scene there are a lot of modified cars, only 5 actor vehicles are in that scene, rest is from the car community of that time, and it’s a mixed bunch.
There where Civic’s, Mr2’s, Integra’s, Sentra’s, Beemers, Pt Cruiser’s, Lancer’s, Mustang’s, Camaro’s, Skyline’s, etc. And all are the same style, lot of visual parts, and I’m guessing 7/10 where mechanical stock.
What’s most noticeable is that all cars in that scene are affordable, exception of supra’s, rx7 and other sports cars.
You can basicly make a checklist to see if you have everything that makes your car able to be part in “The Fast And The Furious” or “2 Fast 2 Furious”
Bumpers
Side Skirts
Spoiler
Hood/Bonnet
Fenders
Stripe/Flame/Tribal/Etc Decals (branded performance named decals look stupid on a bone stock car)
17” Rims (depending on car maybe bigger or smaller, it must have normal sized tires, no low profile)
Exhaust (muffler mostly)
Quick Release Steering Wheel
Bucket Seats
Radio (either with flip screen or a solid mounted lcd screen)
Speakers
LCD Screens
Alu Pedals
Alu Shifter
LED Lights of any color (under and inside car).
So this style can’t be named just Ricer/Chav/Sex Spec, because the style I just described is not related to the owner of the vehicle itself, also cars that are shown in 1st and 2nd F&F movies are all good looking for that era of the car scene, and the car has it’s own personality.
Cars with visual modifications that look stupid on the car itself can stay described as rice, I have no problem with that, but a car that’s made with passion, love and atention to detail should deserve more respect like a tuner car does (tuners are completly different, yet just like a visually modified car, the owner is proud of their vehicle)
You don't have to like every style, or do every style, but at least respect all styles and don't be the one that insult something because it has no taste/style to you.
So now that this tread/post comes to an end, I have a question.
A car with visual modifications that looks like it came from the first 2 F&F movies, how should we brand these things, reminder, don’t base something to taste, that’s different for everyone.
I was thinking of F&F Tuning or RVCM (Retro Visual Car Modifications)
Let me know how you would name a car that’s visually modified in the style of the first 2 F&F movies.
In a week or 2 I’ll take all of the names in a list and I put it up for voting (it won’t change the world, but I would like to have a place for some respect) (any taste based comment that’s disrespectful will be ignored for a new name, sorry but I take this a bit seriously)
Comments
Eh, even if we wanted to start a new name here, it probably wouldn’t take off. The site just isn’t big enough to really kick something like this off.
I know, but I’m updating this tread a bit and also going to make a video version of this to place on YouTube, not sure how I should name it to get attention though.
Post is updated, you can take a new look to it.
Non-tastefully modified cars
NTMC
xD
That’s even more disrespectful.
Taste btw is something you can’t brand something with, if I would do that, all liberty walk and rocket bunny cars would get that name.
I’m updating the tread btw so check back in a jiffy for a better version.

But don’t comment another taste based opinion, thanks.
RICE stands for Race-Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement. In other words, parts that are purely visual, and do not have any performance improvement. Rocket Bunny doesn’t fall into this category, if the extra width could be used to fit wider tyres. But if its combined with excessive lowering and camber, its rice.
There are different forms of ricer, but it doesn’t matter if its a chavs Corsa with a massive fartcan or a 1.4l Civic with the full eBay body kit, its still a ricer.
You maybe forget this little factor “Race Inspired” a car that looks in the style of early 2000 doesn’t look like a race car to me, a RB and LW looks like a race car with big splitter and wing etc, but I would never call them Rice for this reason.
You know. I won’t start an argument on what should stay rice or not, that’s not the reason for this.
I do ask to have a more respectfull name for a car with visual modifications that would deserve a spot in the original F&F movie instead of saying “It’s still a ricer” if you know what I mean.
V.I.R.C.A.
Vissually Inhanced Race Car Association
No matter how u put it points to r.i.c.e.. but virca is a proud enough. IMO
That’s indeed a bit more respectful, I will note this for when I’m making the list in a few weeks for voting.
It makes me think of visual modifications made by race car enthusiasts that like the sporty look and feeling. The virca cars would be without speakers or led lights. :-)
Little note I just noticed now, you spelled your suggestion slightly wrong.
It would be V.E.R.C.A. Visually Enhanced Race Car Association.
Enhanced is with an E, not I, it’s not a problem but I did need to point it out to avoid anyone saying something bad to you spelling, everyone makes mistakes sometimes ;-)
The voting list is here but I decided not to implement your suggestion, I’m a bit afraid it would be used in the wrong way: https://www.carthrottle.com/post/vrdzy9o/
Cars with visual modifications that are made for that car without performance upgrades can be considered sort of like a daily tuner
That’s a great name, not sure how hardcore performance tuners will think of it, that said, because both styles are dedicated tuners can be split in performance tuners and daily tuners, a daily car doesn’t need power or handling.
Daily tuner is my favorite that I have on the list so far :-)

That can be somwhat of what the name can be
Budget build
That’s original and so true ;-) it’s noted for the voting list.

2F2F fanboyism
Not 100% sure if fanboyism is a good idea, but I will say it’s more respectful than ricer is there day’s.
Your idea is noted though.

Ha! Good looking out =)
Thanks.
What about Fundemental Auto Guru.
What do you mean with that?
