#mysportscar (1/2) Ford Thunderbird Revival Project
Ah…the good old 1955 Ford Thunderbird. Originally Ford’s answer to the Corvette, it is praised by enthusiasts and handled better than the Corvette at it’s time. Sadly, later versions became more of a personal luxury cruiser, and finally Ford killed off the Thunderbird in 2004 and it’s archnemesis lived on.
So, I am actually happy for a true comeback for the Thunderbird, and yes, here’s how I do it.
Engine & Drivetrain
The engine will be available in three versions, the 2.3 Ecoboost 4-pot from Europe, the 4.0 Barra L6 from Australia, and the 5.2 Voodoo V8 from America.
The base model (RS) will be using the Ecoboost engine from the Focus RS, but this time enlarged to 2.5 liters for more power, and make the turbo generates less pressure for more grunt.
Midrange models (XR6) will be generated by the fabulous Barra L6 (cos Barra L6 > Ecoboost V6 yo). It will be also turbocharged, just like it’s discontinued sibling Falcon XR6 Turbo.
The most prominent version, the Thunderbird GT350, will be powered by Ford America’s most potent engine, the Voodoo V8. Unlike the other powerplants it was supplemented by a supercharger like the Mustang GT350.

Styling
The new Thunderbird will be smaller and lighter than it’s predecessor (2004 Thunderbird) and the Mustang. The body will be made out of aluminium, and just like the Corvette, it will be made out of fiberglass panels.
The interior will be not focused on luxury (if you want a luxurious Ford get a Lincoln). It will be functional, yet stylish.
Suspension and Handling
To make sure this new sports car can take on with the 911 and of course, the Corvette, the suspension will be fully all-new with only 5% of the parts are carried over from the Mustang. It will be mostly RWD, but AWD is an option for the XR6 model. The engine, unlike most Ford Thunderbirds, is located on the rear like the 911. Why? Just for fun :P.
Pricing
It will be starting at USD 50,000, which means the pricing is lower than the Corvette, it’s enemy. Yes. Such pricing makes people think twice before planning to buy a Corvette or even a 911.
So, that’s it. A modern homage to the legendary Thunderbird, with a 911 twist.

Sounds like a good recipe for fun. BTW the Voodoo is a 5.2 not a 5.0.
Nice!
Love it, but btw the Voodoo is 5.2L, the coyote is 5 liters
I hate being a business major, because when I read all these posts, all I can imagine is how difficult it would be to bring cars like these to market.
😁😁
So you slapped on the Thunderbird name on a Capri? You’re a mad genius.
