The Koenigsegg Agera R and the US Street Legal Requirements
Koenigsegg and the US don’t really get along. Currently only 8 koenigsegg cars are allowed to drive in the US, but all 8 are the older ccx models. There are several other koenigsegg models that recently arrived in the US including the One:1, but it will not be permitted on the road. According to a carbuzz article, US street legal Ageras were supposed to begin selling in 2015, but as far as we know no street legal agera was sold in the US in 2015. The main problem is that at the moment each individual car has to be modified to comply with the US regulations. Koenigsegg is currently assembling an Agera RS specifically for the US. There is no public information that states what exactly about the Agera makes it illegal, but there can’t be much about it that makes it illegal. The Agera does not have the fastest 0-60 time, nor does it have the fastest top speed of American street legal cars. The Hennessy venom is currently street legal in the US, and the top speed is 5 MPH faster than the Ageras top speed. There is no requirement for how low a car is to the ground in almost all states, so it’s not the ground clearance. It does not exceed horsepower limitations (there aren’t any). The only problem seems to be the type of fuel it uses because in some states it is not sold to the public. So in all the Agera r as far as we know should be legal in the US. It seems a waste because if the concern is speed, there is nowhere in the US that can get the Agera up to its top speed, and quite honestly, 200MPH is enough to outrun almost every police car in the country. 200MPH is also a very common speed for supercars. Koenigsegg should not be required to produce cars specifically for the US.

From the research I did, I found that in some states such as Florida, E85, and E100 biofuels are not sold to the public.
There is a place right down the road from my house called Racecar Engineering that sells 116 octane race gas, it’s only like $10 a gallon

Isn’t there like a safety issue that the US uses to make them illegal
I’m not sure. I couldn’t find much reasoning for why they are not street legal. Safety could be the reason though.
I think so . . . something about them not being safe enough (not being able to absorb enough impact on an accident)
It might be because koenigsegg doesn’t do crash testing, they use computer simulations. I think some states in the U.S. require crash tests for it to be legal.
It’s probably emissions requirements. The US is very strict on those, and I bet koinengnessengegg didn’t bother with making it pass. That might be fixed with a tune though, so idk why it would need to be done to every car. There might also be some weird rule that says “Headlights must be at least 19 and 15/16ths inches from the ground” or “Windshield wipers must clear at least 72.35% of the area of the windshield” or something like that that it doesn’t pass.
EDIT: After reading some articles, it seems like it’s regulations on airbags, or other (annoying) safety rules like all new cars needing ESP, and all new cars (starting 2017 I think?) Need backup cameras. Similar reasons as to why very few TVRs have been sold here.

Some models of Konenigsegg Agera R is illegal in the us because they have no roof and all cars that can drive on us streets have to have a roof plus all of the other models like the One:1 are illegal because they are simply too fast and accelerate too fast deaming them a track car and won’t be allowed to drive on the streets and can only be driven n tracks
Hi guys I just have a simple question.. me and my fiance own Koenigsegg Agera R and we’re thinking about moving to the US to get married there so I can get US nationality. (she’s american) We’re about to ship the car there.. But I’ve heard those things about these cars being “illegal” in the US.. and because I’m from europe I just don’t get what that “illegal” thing about supersports means especially Koenigseggs.. We have other supersports being shipped there (Mclaren MP-4 12C, Audi R8 and few others) and there seems to be no problem.. Is it the fuel thing? is it considered a track vehicle? (we mostly use it just to “get from point A to point B” / going to work..
or why the F. is it considered illegal???
