Sporting heavyweights to take to the ring road as Racing Trucks announced for 2016 Coventry Motofest.

Things are set to get heavy on the ring road this June as organisers at Coventry Motofest announce racing trucks will take part in this year’s event.

The 1000 horsepower, five tonne heavyweights of motorsport, drawn from the British Truck Racing Championship’ (BTRC) race series, will run on the ring road circuit on June 4- 5 - courtesy of Coventry Motofest’s new partnership with Donington Park circuit.

The partnership between the two organisations will see the East Midlands based circuit bring a range of content from their 2016 events calendar and race series to run on the Motofest track during this year’s festival.

With Donington Park circuit hosting one of the key rounds of the British Truck Racing Championship on July 23-24, the drivers will have the opportunity to warm up for the swoops and inclines of the East Midlands circuit with runs around Motofest’s unique ring road course.

Among the drivers taking part are ten-time BTRC champion Stuart Oliver, championship regular Steve Thomas and BTRC 2011 and 2015 Division Two champion Steve Powell , whose father was one of the first UK truck racers competing over 30 years ago.

As well as being among the BTRC’s top drivers, Stuart Oliver, Steve Thomas and Steve Powell are also the entrepreneurial driving force behind BTRC, and are looking forward to taking to the ring road in their modified rigs to entertain the crowds at Coventry Motofest.

Stuart Oliver, Director of Truck Sport Promotions Ltd said: “As a company, Truck Sport Promotions Limited are delighted to be given the opportunity to attend this year’s Coventry Motofest.

“We are looking forward to bringing along a selection of 1,100 BHP Race Trucks to entertain, demonstrate and display to those attending the high level of skill and professionalism involved in the British Truck Racing Championship.

“The racing trucks are the true heavyweights of motor sport and we aim to put on a big show at the Coventry Motofest event.”

Darren Langeveld, Coventry Motofest Race Director, said: “Racing Trucks make for some of the most spectacular sights in British motorsport, with burning rubber and powerslides a common sight.

“They are certainly nothing like the trucks you might casually overtake on a motorway or the ring road! With some of the best drivers from the BTRA series confirmed to take part, the racing trucks are set to be a real crowd pleaser and another great addition to the overall spectacle of the festival.”

As part of the racing trucks announcement, Coventry Motofest and Donington Park circuit are running a joint competition offering entrants the chance to win two VIP tickets for the Donington Park round of the British Truck Racing Championship on July 23- 24.

Ian Watson, General Manager at the British Automobile Racing Club who jointly organise the BTRC championship, said: “The BARC are delighted to be involved with Motofest again in 2016, having experienced the event for the first time last year.
“Each year we see Coventry Motofest grow and provide the audience with a real variety of vehicles to watch during the weekend. This year we are pleased to see some of our Truck Championship competitors taking part, which will be a shock to some, but expected to create an awesome sight for all involved.”

Alongside the main championship round, the meeting in July hosts the comparatively tiny Legends cars, roaring Pick-Up Trucks on track and off track plenty of family fun with kid’s entertainment, fairground rides and activity areas.

Coventry’s Motofest 2016 is a two-day festival – with additional launch events on Friday 3 June -dedicated to the city’s motoring heritage, which this year takes place on Saturday June 4 and Sunday June 5.

There will be a range of automotive activities taking place from pop-up racing and demonstration events to static displays and fringe events – an ‘Edinburgh Festival’ for cars, bikes and vehicles.
