Naming Visual Modified Cars

I noticed that a lot of cars with visual modifications get the same name, depending where the website comes from of course.

So I collected a few of these and I didn’t search for the best looking pictures, just the first one that shows in search results of pictures (google.be is my default search engine)

(Note: I have no focus on a specific naming of these cars, I make this post because it’s less fun in the car community than it was a few years ago)

Also, at the end I ask a few questions, please read this full post before commenting anything, thanks in advance.

Let's get started.

Rice (car)

Rice or Ricer is a general used term for any, and I mean ANY car that has modifications that aren’t to the taste of the person that says it, now I’m not going to defend anything but ricer is mostly used as insult just because a car is “ugly”, a fully build twin turbo aventador with liberty walk is ugly to my taste, so should I call that rice to?

But Ricer is mostly used in America towards a person that acts like they have a unbeatable car that can beat anything, wile it’s far from fast in reality.

Rice Burner

This is a name that’s more towards the car, rather than the person, so straight away I prefer this to use on a car.

Rice Burner is litterly the car made to look far from factory without the need to hack parts of the body away, wild bolt on body kit, wild decals, loud stereo, big “fart” can, huge chrome rims etc.

Sex Spec

This is the Australian version of the term Rice, but unlike the Americans, the Ozzy’s use Sex Spec just for the cars and not the drivers, which is more respectfull if you ask me.

Modifications is just like the Rice Burner, but the focus is more on the big (mostly chrome) rims and super detailed interior and decals, often beautifull (personal opinion) with atention to detail on level of custom lowriders.

Chav (car)

Chav is the UK version of Ricer, so it has both uses on the car and the owner.

Modifications are clear by now, wild bolt on body kits, big chrome rims, custom interior etc.

Boy Racer?

Now I come to a few that I don’t understand, so please help me on these.

This is a Toyota Supra, highly respected in the Tuner world and multiple cars have 800+ hp.
But this is the first picture I got with Boy Racer, that term is also originated in the UK so I’m a bit confused.

Update: Boy Racer is mostly used to describe people with highly modified cars (both visual and performance) that do illegal street racing.

Rice Rocket?

This is even more confusing for me, Wiki says Ricer, Rice Burner and Rice Rocket on the same page.

But this RX-8 is a example that I see more described as Tuner, even with this Wheels/Body Kit setup.

Question Time

1/ So where does the RX-8 and the Supra fit in, and should Ricer be used to the person and Rice Burner to the car?

2/ Are cars with more visual than performance best described as Sex Spec/Rice Burner instead of Ricer, which is more used as insult anyway?

(I’m personaly going to stop using Ricer and use Douchebag towards people and Sex Spec or Rice Burner towards the cars)

I think “boy racer” tends to apply to the driver more than the car. They’re the sort of people who illegally race their highly-modified cars (both visual and performance usually) at night.

OK, that makes more sense, I think I found a documentary about that a few years ago.

Regardless I’ll add the racing part in this post when I can, thanks. :-)

The more you try to understand it, the more confused you get. I made a post about “rice” some time ago too, everyone has a diffrent meaning for it.

I know, but my focus is not on the ricer term but to get the ct community on a friendly note towards cars that have more visual modifications that performance.

I can’t change the world but I find the community less fun to be in every day.

I think the name “Sex-Spec” is pretty freaking cool! I really liked the S14 in the photo as well. It has a lowrider theme but it’s a newer car, rather than a 40 year-old American land yacht (I love lowriders pls no kill). I can respect a “riced” car, but only if the parts match. If the car has a pink front bumper, red hood, primed rear bumper, stickerbombed skirts and what not, I don’t think I’d look at it twice. Also, I’d say that the RX8 isn’t really a riced car, more like a tuner who wanted the car to look a bit prettier because he didn’t like the stock front bumper (like me again, pls no kill). Overall, great post and I appreciate your work and effort to show us the differences :)

I prefer Sex-Spec to, it descibes more that the car is made to look nice/hot/sexy.

The RX-8 came from a post on a website I can’t remember, and it(s the owner of that car that called it Rice Rocket, that’s why I’m confused about it because it screems tuner to me.
