The Polestar 1 electric grand tourer will not be coming to the UK yet. The car’s launch markets have just been revealed, and Britain is not on the list.

The 592bhp 2+2 powerhouse will first be sold in the USA, China, Germany, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands. Be in no doubt that those European countries are offering serious tax advantages or other financial incentives on electric cars; hence the high demand.

Polestar, now a sister manufacturer to Volvo and Geely, says that the choice of countries is down to the amount of demand, which it defines in terms of formal expressions of interest. Holding deposits may or may not have been placed.

The actual purchasing model will have no deposit. It’s based on one single (large) monthly payment that covers usage, depreciation, collection and delivery for the included servicing, plus access to various on-demand perks.

A decision on whether and when the Polestar 1 will come to the UK will be taken when there’s a sufficient build-up of interest or they decide the UK simply isn’t bothered enough. Production isn’t scheduled to start until mid-2019 anyway, so there’s plenty of time.

Really? I can see it selling like hot cakes to the Surrey brigade and I thought our government was all about subsiding EVs? Odd decision. Maybe for the second wave.

I have lost every ounce of my respect for Polestar. Electric is so pathetic.
