An Overzealous Traffic Camera Snapped This Car's Shadow

A Russian driver has complained to traffic police after his car's shadow set of a traffic camera, leading to a fine being incorrectly issued
An Overzealous Traffic Camera Snapped This Car's Shadow

We all fear that moment when we open up the morning’s post to find a nasty driving fine hidden among the bills and takeaway pizza menus. However, when a man in Russia discovered one such infraction, accusing him of crossing a solid white line, he knew he wasn’t guilty. Why? Because that white line in question was crossed only by his Honda CR-V’s shadow, which for whatever reason managed to set an overeager traffic camera off.

He posted the fine’s accompanying photo (above) on website Drive.ru, clearly showing he’d done nothing wrong. He stated that he’s made a complaint on the traffic police website, and is awaiting a response.

Something tells us this should be an easy fine to get out of…

Some say the camera was set off by a Rolls Royce beside the Honda, but I can’t see anything except a Shadow. Maybe it was a Ghost.

I sure hope the police and judge don’t say that the photo is proof of him crossing that solid white line and bring in a law where your shadow has to be within your lane, because Australian police might do just that if given the chance

Australian police would arrest you for driving your own car if they were given the chance.

Apparently, because people abuse the emergency lane during traffic jams so that could be a reason

In the US, white lines are used to separate lanes travelling in the same direction while yellow lines are used to separate those travelling in opposite directions. Generally speaking, dotted lines mean you can cross the line, solid means you cannot. this is always the case in white lines, but yellow lines tend to take a few more liberties as conventions differ. Double yellow lines are not to be crossed at any time. A single solid yellow line accompanied by a dotted yellow line may only be crossed by traffic on the side with the dotted line. You will only find a single solid yellow line between an outside lane and a shoulder, and it should not be crossed.

It is now against the law for you to cross that white line, even when police direct you to.
