Mercedes-Benz Building Last SLR McLarens

As is often said, all good things (depending on if you think this was a good thing) must come to an end.

As is often said, all good things (depending on if you think this was a good thing) must come to an end. McLaren is setting its sights on Ferrari and Lamborghini, aiming to develop a full roadcar division that begins with the MP4-12C.Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, is setting out on its own as well, developing the SLS AMG supercar inhouse.

Five variants of the SLR family were produced – two coupes, two roadsters and the last model. the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. Interesting fact: SLR stand for "sporty", "light" and "raceworthy" according to Mercedes. Never knew that!

Today Mercedes issued a press release proclaiming the "end of a great era." The last of the Stirling Moss models are being built right now.

Each person who buys a SLR get a ticket to the SLR Club that continues on after production stops. Mercedes says the club will include various driving events, participation in the Mille Miglia and other tours throughout Europe. Sounds like fun stuff!
