Hyundai Is Brewing A Cheaper, Hot Hatch-Inspired i30 N-Line
Hyundai is planning an i30 N-Line this year, with much of the i30 N’s muscle-bound looks in tandem with cheaper insurance and ownership costs.
It will get 18-inch wheels wrapped in super-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, a sporty body kit closely related to that of the brilliant hot hatchback we’re running as a long-termer, and red accents (because +20bhp). Underneath will be a slightly lower, tweaked version of the i30’s chassis while the ordinary seats recently spotted in a test car suggest the N-Line will be much more like the standard i30 on the inside.
Despite that, reports suggest the N-Line will have been tested at the Nurburgring to make sure it’s more engaging than the average biffabout in this class of car. The Ford Focus has traditionally been the target benchmark, its ST-Line trim grade offering much the same relative deal as Hyundai is exploring with the N-Line.
With an all-new Focus having just been released, it’ll be interesting to see how the two rate against each other. The ST-Line with the 123bhp Ecoboost petrol engine is the best-selling Focus variant in the UK, so the warm-hatch niche offers Hyundai significant money-making potential.
We’d expect the N-Line to use several engines, starting with its own turbocharged 1.0-litre ‘Kappa’ unit, good for 118bhp, and potentially reaching as high as the 173bhp 1.6-litre unit from the Gamma family.
As for headline costs, around £21,000 would make sense versus the similarly-priced Focus ST-Line. Whether or not Hyundai engages with cheap, subsidised finance deals to the same extent as Ford remains to be seen.

Just because the i30n is too extreme and too expensive
What are you talking about?
I really do hate the whole SLine NLine AMGLine bull shit, it takes away from the actually performance models and makes all models look the same. And if you dont one of the above mentioned Lines on your car its considered poverty spec. Just keep performance models and the standard cars completely seperate, styling and all.
all “Line” things.
What about if you want a regular car but you want it to not look like crap? I’ve done that with my golf. I have a base spec model but I’ve put the GTI wheels and spoiler to make it not look so poverty spec
Exactly, but the most annoying one of them all is BMW’s M package
Yeah not everyone can afford an M3 , audi rs3 because they got to use it everyday and in the uk them cars are targets for thieves , so the everyday working man cant afford to own it , the only thing they can buy is a warm version of it which is fair enough
It will most probs not be allowed in America..
Audi S-Line, BMW M-sport, Volvo R Design, Renault GT Line etc etc, now Hyundai N-Line
MAKE IT STOP
Don’t forget VWs R-line, too
No, it can allow you to get a cheaper car, maybe not the right engine but you can get more firm suspensions, better tires and a better ride in general
I swear, people in the UK are so boring when it comes to cars. They would buy a Focus ST-Line over the full-fat ST. As someone who lives in the UK I can’t understand why.
Because many people haven’t got £30K to spend on an ST, plus running and insurance costs etc. The ST-Line looks better than the rest of the trims but doesn’t have the price tag. I have a Leon FR, I couldn’t afford the Cupra in the real world, but 184BHP (Which isn’t slow) and 50+MPG is good enough as it’s way cheaper. Doesn’t make me boring, means a don’t have to choose between fuel or food haha!
Most people don’t want a car that’s enjoyable to drive
They want a car that looks cool and they can brag about at a pub
That’s why people still prefer the sh*tty old Audi A1 (over a much better VW Polo) and the outdated A-class is one of the best sellers in the UK too despite the fact that it’s objectively worse than many “non-premium brand” hatchbacks.
I mean just look at the number of C220d and 320ds with fake AMG and M badges and you’ll get why people love these “line” cars
What’s next? Skoda releases a vRS-line? Only time will tell.
The “Monte Carlo” versions of the Citigo and Fabia are serving that purpose right now.
Car model lines
The new type of ricers on the market
I feel disappointed by car companies because of this
Almost every car brand with a sports variant does this.
ITS TIME TO STOP
Gti’s and perfomance lines arent what they used to be. At least for most new cars. I feel like theres a thousand different golf versions .
In dont think that the i30N is too expensive. I mean yeah, Im paying 600€ a month for fuel, insurance and taxes… but thats because I drive at least 100km a day.
Only 600€? Dude, I have a M3, which, I guess, is a lot less expensive in insurance, and I’m probably spending only maybe $100 less per month, with everything included (but yeah, I do the same type of travelling, I’m generally doing 150 km per day to go to college). As for maintenance, how does it look? My thing costs me a fortune, it has a ton of Ford parts mixed with Mazda parts and it costs a lot because it keeps breaking (early 2000 Ford parts are probably not reputed for their reliability), and parts are also expensive af.
All of these new performance specs are giving me a headache. Like make it stop already
