Check out this beauty! Ares Design, which brought the world a lighter, coachbuilt Mercedes G-Wagen a couple of months ago, has gone back to the drawing board and come up with this, a stunning supercar based on the Lamborghini Huracan.

There’s something vaguely Lancia Stratos-ish about the car’s lines, and that is definitely a good thing. It actually takes the De Tomaso Pantera as its style model, and that’s also where it gets its name. Named Project Panther for now, it’s apparently the first of several Ares Design sketches to use the Huracan platform. And it has pop-up headlights.

Ares is said to want to upgrade the Huracan’s mid-mounted V10 to better that car’s 572bhp output, but we don’t yet know whether the chassis will be configured for four- or rear-wheel drive. Either way, it looks as fast as it should. That’s partly thanks to Pirelli Color Edition tyres with F1-inspired coloured strips on the sidewalls, shown here in red.

There is no set limit to the planned production, but small numbers are the only option. It’s not an easy conversion to make, and buyers will be paying the kind of price that will deserve a bit, fat wedge of exclusivity.

Project Panther will be built at Ares’ Modena factory, not far from Ferrari’s historic base. The model is the firm’s flagship for now, but company boss and former Lotus man Danny Bahar says there are plans for ‘much more’ next year. That could include an even more powerful, even more exclusive car.

Ares Design is also working with JE MotorWorks to create 53 bespoke Land Rover Defenders as part of its plan to become the new world leader in coachbuilt cars.
