This 7min 45sec Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate 'Ring Lap Is A Thrill To Watch
Christian Gebhardt can be seen putting in another incredible display at the Nurburgring, clocking the track’s fastest ever time for an estate car in the process
Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the fastest wagon on the Nordschleife: the Mercedes-AMG E63 S estate. Its 603bhp, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 was able to overcome a circa-two tonne kerb weight, yielding a 7min 45.19sec lap time. But as ever, this is an incredible time made possible by an immensely talented and surely slightly bonkers driver - in this case Sport Auto’s Christian Gebhardt.
We’ve seen some heroic laps from the man in the past, but we can’t remember ever him seeing crossing the gantry ‘finish line’ on the grass, as he does here. The word ‘commitment’ doesn’t quite describe this lap adequately enough.
Make sure you watch the whole lap through - it’s most certainly worth your time.

I see no difference…
That is mental. Knowing that these days, a 100 grand wagon is as quick as a 200-300 grand supercar of 5 years ago simply boggles the mind!
Who needs a fast SUV when you can have a fast estate?

I am sure the family dog is pleased.
Ok, i really need to ask this… lets say you got this ride, its a beautiful wagon, really fast, grippy too as far as i can tell. You got your family in and you take some tours… if you go cruising it, not more than 100km/h , sixth gear in and all, are you damaging it?
I mean, this engine has amazing potential, if you go a 1000 khm trip cruising twice per year, will it hold?
When you have to pick up the kids but pass the ‘ring on the way
Maybe it’ll motivate the guys from Alfa Romeo to beat Mercedes’ time as well with a Giulia QV Wagon
Faster than a Jag XJ220
me trying to work out how an estate car is faster than a GT-R
