Watch The Mercedes-AMG GT R Smash Out An Incredible 7min 10sec 'Ring Time
Mercedes-AMG made a big deal about the new GT R’s Nurburgring development while marketing the car, but someone’s actually beaten the company to it with a hot lap time. The ‘someone’ is Sport Auto magazine, who sent the car around the Green Hell with ruthlessly quick driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel, who clocked an astonishing 7min 10.92sec.
That’s just over two seconds off the Nissan GT-R Nismo N Attack’s time, and just over 10 seconds off the Lamborghini Aventador SV. Not bad, right?
As a reminder, the AMG GT R is considerably more powerful than the ‘lesser’ GT S, with 577bhp from its 4.0-litre V8 courtesy of new turbochargers. The suspension and brakes have been considerably beefed up, and it’s littered with clever bits of active and passive aero.

Here is a closer picture of the “Green Hell”
Crap, that looks fast!
I’m quite impressed, but I still don’t like it
But it still gets beaten to sixty by the Mercedes E63S.
Speed is not enough to make a car into a supercar, thats why the Nismo for example isn’t a supercar
The Viper is 9 seconds faster… Even with double the price and production by Mercedes, the AMG GT R can’t stand up to a good bout of… ‘MURICA!!!
The start and finish points are not the same. I find it funny that they have a .92 accuracy, yet have the start/finish a 100 feet apart or so.
edit: It is probably like 200 feet different.
Omg Ive been this car hit 300 kmh, and it was worth it!
It’s crazy watching these nurburgring videos while having the track layout memorized from forza.
The green hell was defeated by green heaven
