Is it healthy to redline your car once in awhile?

My friend and I have been arguing over this for months hopefully we can find the answer here.

I know that is is really good to do that in a rotary, keeps the seals nice and lubricated.

As far as I know everyone should push the engine at least one a month to clean it up a little bit

I think putting some heat on the engine is good to remove sediments. I’m not sure about the absolute redline, maybe driving just before the redline? Also, if you have an older car, I’d avoid it because it breaks seals and gaskets (i know from experience)

Higher rpms are going to push the limits. It’s where stuff is under the most stress and will therefore break.

That being said, I firmly believe taking your engine higher within its operating range is good once in a while.

Basically, higher rpms are okay, but redlining? Not so much.

If you use correct engine oil and oil pressure is fine go to redline. Engine are made to support those revolution.

The faster it spins, the more stress it has, therefore it wears out faster. No need to redline the engine. Its good to keep it on higher revs once a month (1500rpm under redline) on an uphill to clear it. Especially older engines with old seals and gaskets, dont redline them.

When i was 17 i owned a corolla which spent about 90% of it’s time getting the ever living crap kicked out of it.. I would bounce redline when at redlights and dump the clutch.. The car lasted 339K miles without any issues ever.. I blew the original stock clutch at 338K miles, and drove without a clutch for 1K miles before i junked it.. (Got 3K at the salvage yard)

Now..
I owned a taurus SHO which i blew up at 86K miles..

If you own an Import you are good to go..
If you own an american car, never redline it..

While getting an MOT a mechanic friend of mine told me to drive it hard once in a while. It will help to burn off crap in the engine and exhaust (cat mostly). Assuming the car is in good health and regularly serviced giving it the beans will be fine
