I wish we were joking, I really do. But sadly, we’re 20 days too late for April Fool’s and there really is a car in existence called the BMW Individual M760i xDrive Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS. The name has come about through a range of special edition 7-series models catchily called BMW Individual 7 Series THE NEXT 100 YEARS (we’re not sure why BMW is shouting for the last bit, but that’s what’s in the press release) of which 100 worldwide will be made.

For the top-of-the-line version you need to sandwich in M760i xDrive Model V12, creating a monstrous name which is 57 characters long. Including the spaces, you could only just fit it into a Tweet twice.

The rest of the range doesn’t fare much better in the naming stakes, as you’ll see below:

BMW Individual 740Le iPerformance THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
BMW Individual 740Le xDrive iPerformance THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
BMW Individual 750Li THE NEXT 100 YEARS.
BMW Individual 750Li xDrive THE NEXT 100 YEARS.

So, other than the name, what’s special about the BMW Individual M760i xDrive Model V12 Excellence THE NEXT 100 YEARS? Well, the interior is awash with lashings of posh Merino leather and festooned with ‘THE NEXT 100 YEARS’ badges, while the exterior is finished in exclusive Centennial Blue Metallic paint from BMW Individual. Oh, and you also get a ‘BMW Centennial Fountain Pen’ which matches the colour of the car, should that be the sort of thing which interests you…

The M760Li could probably reach 100mph and come to a stop in the time it took me to read that name.

Well, I was quite bored when I saw your comment, so I decided to do a similar test. At first I looked up what the 0-100 km/h time for the 760i was and it was around 5,5 seconds. I then asked a friend of mine to start the stopwatch on my phone. When I had ( finally) finished reading out the whole name of the model, my friend showed me the stopwatch on my phone and it the time that were being displayed on the screen of my phone said 5,5 seconds, believe it or not.

When you let a 7 year old name a 7 series… it’s like they just took random sayings/phrases… Excellence, THE NEXT 100 YEARS!

you know what the 3 digit number means
first number chassis/body
like 7 for seven series etc
the last two numbers is engine displacment
540 is five series engine 4 liters
528 is five series 2.8 liter engine
if it was random, people could have a nine series with a 9 liter engine (almost ten)
The EPA will be like OH hECK NO!

I miss the times when BMW gave names as simple as M1 to their cars…
