The car which lived too short: The Honda S2000 *read below*

If you look for a car that feels great on the road (and track), goes smooth around the corners and isn´t a Miata, this is the one. The Honda S2000 came 1999 on the market and was built until 2009, nearly without any changes. First the car was built in the manufacturing side Tochigi, which was first made for the Honda NSX, but later Honda manufactured the S2000 in Suzuka. Developed by chef engineer Shigeru Uehara, the car should serve to celebrate the 50th company anniversary. The precursor of the roadster was the Honda study SSM (Sports Study Model), which was first presented on the 18th October of 1995 at the Tokyo Motor Show, and the basic concept was substantially a Honda S800 in modern form. This prototype had, as the Honda NSX, a self-supporting body, the headlights were placed on the same height as the radiator and the cockpit was built around the driver. It had a 2,0 litre four banger with DOHC VTEC and 200 hp. With its light-gold colour, the SSM recalled the first Honda Formula 1 prototype, which was built in 1963. One year later, the SSM was slightly revised presented at the Genfer Autosalon, but the first unveil of the actual S2000 was on the Detroit Motor Show in 1999. In the same year, the car was chosen as the best cabriolet of the year.

The Honda S2000 was usually powered by the 241hp N/A four cylinder VTEC engine, which was also chosen as the best engine from 1,8 to 2,0 litres in five consecutive years. Because of the reason that they had a manufacturing side only for the S2000, the engines were built with much effort. The car makes its high performance because of high rpm (8300rpm/ min) and it revs up to 9000 rpm. The S2000 can also be used as a track weapon, because it has a rigid body

In 2002, the S2000 got a little facelift. The clearest marks were the modern headlights and the rear window made out of glass. Two years later there was a new facelift, with little changes on the front- and rear bumper and on the interior. In 2007, Honda built the JDM-only S2000 Type S (Yes Type S instead of Type R) with front, rear and underbody spoilers, an even sportier suspension setup and black-golden seats. Then, in 2009, after 110,000 sales, Honda announced that they won´t continue to build the S2000. However, you can still buy used ones in good shape and maybe in some years (hopefully) Honda will build a successor of the S2K.

That´s it, I hope you liked my text about the S2000! Thanks for reading!

I think the S2000 should only be in production for like 10 years and then stop for 10. Then they can evolve it properly without being tied down by the previous generation like most cars.
