Why I Hate Electric Cars: They Are NOT The Future! #blogpost [WARNING: RANT]

The electric car is something that has been around for a long time. But they have gained popularity in the past few years when a certain few automakers decided that it would be a good idea to sell new ones. Many people will say that the electric car is the future, but trust me, there are actually some legit reasons in this rant why they aren’t.

1. The Automakers/The Environment

The root of the problem is the automakers. Tesla being the main one (I hate Tesla). They make these EVs in an effort to save the environment. In reality, they are just as bad to the environment as fossil fuel cars. For one, they claim that their cars are “zero-emissions”. Think about it, guys, where does electricity come from? Oh yeah, BURNING COAL. As for solar panels and the like? I could make a whole other rant on the effects and inefficiency of those. So “zero-emissions” cars have no IMMEDIATE emissions, but down the line there is pollution occurring. Another reason is how they are made. They are made from metals (which are mined, just like fossil fuels are taken from the ground). They are made in factories, which must be powered by something, right? AND, think about a battery. Batteries like in a Prius are an ecological nightmare; the places they come from, the things they are made from, and how long they will sit decomposing is horrible.

2. The Crowd

Ok, the here’s another reason. The people who are buying these things. Mainly the Teslas. I feel like a Model S P100D is a rich guy’s toy. Why? Because nobody else would buy one. THE two main crowds that will buy these cars are 60+ year old white men (no racism) who want to look cool in front of John and impress their country club buddies, and the other is the rich young Arab guys over in Dubai who are tired of being chauffered around in their “old-school” 2015 Maybach S600s and want to be like the “kool kids”. Seriously, whenever I look at at the driver of a Model S or Model X, it is almost ALWAYS an old white man. And guys, I’m not trying to be racist or anything, I am trying to get a point out there.
So who is going to buy Musk’s new “affordable” car, the Model 3? The idiots who are too young and stupid to understand what they are buying. So now everyone will have a Tesla. [EDIT: Non-petrolheads buying cheap electric cars could mean more gas for us!]
Think about it, who the hell is going to buy a 1000hp minivan? (Faraday future FF 91). The guy who wants to be “new school” so he can “beat a Ferrari in a drag race” and be a sleeper owner. No. More like an overrated, boring electric-minivan-that-happens-to-accelerate-quickly owner.

3. The annoying reoccurring statements about the vehicle

You know what I am talking about. The companies that make these EVs and then talk about the acceleration or the range of their new battery or blah blah blah. Really? The battery gets as far as a thirsty old BMW V8 from the 15 year old M5, and the acceleration is the only thing they talk about because it’s the ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE CAR. Speaking of acceleration, let me go on a rant about that. Who in the HELL wants a minivan that accelerates faster than a Turbo S?! Or a boat-like quiet sedan that will accelerate faster than an Aventador SV?! Nobody!! Besides the people who think they will be cool if they upload a generic video of a pigeon-winged ugly white minivan beating a 10-year-old F430 in a drag race for the first few meters! Sure, they accelerate UNNECESSARILY fast, but a Model S will run out of steam before it can hit 140! SLOWER THAN AN OLD MINI COOPER S! Comparing a luxury SUV to a high-performance $200,000 supercar just because it can hit 60 quicker is not a comparison. 2 completely different car made for completely different reasons.

Okay, I’m done FOR NOW. I have other reasons. but you probably don’t want to hear them. But one final thing: I respect Elon Musk as a scientific genius, but he clearly has NO IDEA whatsoever about running a car company.

I agree. Although I find companies like Lucid and Rimac cool, I couldn’t live without old-school V8’s. The prospect of not being able to own one when I’m old enough, would be reason enough to stop working for school and educating myself. An old Coronet get’s as far as a Model X, but it sounds better.
Since I read an article by Injun86(AE86squad) about bio fuels, I always wanted them to become the norm.

Even in countries like China with “dirty grids”, electric cars have lower CO2 emissions since they’re around 90% efficient compared to 25-40% (cars like the Prius near 40%, along with Formula One cars). Plus at least the pollution isn’t in the city. The real issue is all the mining that needs to be done to make the batteries. Also, the issue with range isn’t that it’s so limited but that you have to wait for a long time to recharge instead of just filling up a tank.

Luckily, it’s almost impossible for aircraft to become electric, so they’re likely to run on biofuels in the future. They do emit CO2 but it’s offset by the CO2 that is absorbed by the plants to grow them. And there are biofuel cars available, although the only ones I can name at the moment are Koenigseggs. So the future will probably mean a mixture of electric, hydrogen fuel cell and biofuel cars, with the hypercars of the future being a biofuel/electric hybrid.

All diesel cars will run on bio diesel, I believe

I did a lecture about this, after I got my score I saw that the teacher had an electric car

so true. they are just campaigned to present as “green cars” because capitalism. why can’t we just stick to bio-fuel?

Not to mention they’re lethal in a crash as the batteries are not only bloody heavy, but also explosive.

Bio Ethanol with super efficient catalitic converters should be used

Seeing as my city is nuclear powered, it’s seems fine by me to own an ev. And the reason why people make hilariously fast electric cars is because of Jeremy Clarkson stamping on peoples minds that they are not the future and they’re futile. People love the tesla, and it’s given everyday a reason to look forward to the future of motoring. We don’t need 1000hp minivans, but if it makes future ev customers more likely to buy a normal car in the future (Renault ZOĚ, for example), everyone wins
The range is nothing spectacular, but at the rate of advancement at the moment, it won’t be long for evs to become perfectly viable in day to day ownership. Give it 10 years and I think there will be 1000 mile ranges on production electric cars.
Now, Id rather drive a petrol car over an electric car any day of the week, but we won’t be able to forever. If we can get the people who don’t care how their car drives into electric cars, we can have more of the black gold to ourselves.

In other news, a 5000 square km piece of ice glacier is breaking free into the ocean due to the rising temperatures, that will cause a 100mm increase of sea level. For the last 10 years the sea rised by 66mm…

I disagree with your statement of electric cars being as bad as fossil fuel cars, thus both being built by the same methods.
A few points for EV-s

  • zero emissions if charged with a renewable source of energy(wind, sun, hydrogen cell)
-better efficiency due to regenerative engine breaking
  • zero idle energy consumption
-absolutely silent - how i love straight pipe civics at 3AM you cannot imagine
  • prolonged maintainance -2 bearings per electric engine, gearbox oil, dead cells replacement every 6-8 years.
LiFeYPO4 cells have a DoD life of 3000 cycles and only wear out 25%. How often do u replace that bulky lead acid 12 volt battery in your car, 4 years tops.

If you have a better excuse for this rant please let me know. Also if you have a better idea of how to build cars that run on nothing thats going to hurt the enviroment enlighten me.

Merry 2017 y’all

Musk has a good idea how to run a company he makes the cars because people want one because they think its the future hes not selling to save the environment hes selling to make money and the way to make money is saying my car has zero emitions its great marketing

the acceleration is good for the first 3mins… the tesla seals off because of overheating too damn fast
