Which Do You Prefer, The 675LT, or The All-New 720S?
Yes, you heard me. If you had to choose one of these bad boys, which one would it be?
(Idea by: fellow CTzen (and one of the friendliest, if I may say) Ewan23)
First Things, First... The Engine
Before we get into the looks of both these beauties, let us start with the source of their badassery, their engines.
675LT: The McLaren 675LT (LT for LongTail) was released last year, 2016. With a twin-turbocharged V8 engine unleashes an additional 25PS (25bhp) and 22Nm (16lb ft), more than the 650S, for a thrilling 675PS (666bhp) and 700Nm (516lb ft), and a class-leading 549PS (541bhp) per tonne. With a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds, and a 0-124 time of 7.9 seconds, joined with a 1/4 mile time of 10.5 seconds. Top speed is 205mph
720S: The 720S (‘S’ for Super) was released just a few hours ago at the Geneva Motorshow. The beating heart of the 720S is a new and fearsomely powerful M840T engine with 720PS. Bathed in vibrant red light, every part of this 4.0-litre unit is refined to maximise power, sharpen responses, and increase fuel efficiency. With 710bhp accompanied by 568Ib-ft of torque, this gives the 720S a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds, and a 0-124 time of 7.8 seconds, joined with a 1/4 mile time of 10.3 seconds. Top speed is 212mph. You also notice that the engine is placed lower than the 675LT’s, for center of gravity, which gives a 3% improvement.
Next on My List... Practicality
Both of these cars are astonishingly quick on a track/quarter mile, but are they worthy of being driven as a daily?
To kick things off, let’s talk about the 675LT.
Although the 675LT is, what McLaren says, a more track-focused car. I believe it can still be used daily.
Now take note that I have never, EVER driven a 675LT (I’d very much would LOVE to own one) so, I had to do some research on whether it can, or cannot. And the result, is yes. Here is what someone said (not going to put out the name of this 675LT owner) “Of course you can use it daily, better ride quality than any other super car, the nose lift negates the front splitter problem, as much carrying capacity as any McLaren , which is loads, I’ve never hit anything in 4 years reversing without a camera, fuel economy is world class for this vehicle, rear quarter on the coupe is okay. It’s only an inch wider than standard and with the best driving position it feels far narrower, only issue is the turning circle….”
The 720S’s luggage space is far more greater than the 675LT, as the trunk at the front of the car has 350L, you can fit a full suitcase, bags, etc. There is 3 times more room in luggage space then any of its competitors. And apparently, it is also more fuel efficient (says McLaren), so I’m going to say, yes, it can be used daily. (You’re welcome James A.K.A MrJWW)
And Finally... The Looks
Probably the part most people have been waiting for, the beautiful, and astonishing looks of the 675LT and the 720S.
720S: The 720S brings a whole new look on aerodynamics, and honestly deserves the title “Aero Monster”, as there are a lot of “secret” air flow spaces, that can only be spotted, when up-close and personal with the 720S.
For example, right in the light socket, is a gap that allows air flow, and apparently hands to pass through. The radiators are directly behind the light sockets. So effectively the lamps are inter-grated into the aerodynamic surface.
Continuing with the looks of the 720S, the doors open 15cm closer to the body, so this makes tight parking spaces no problem at all. It’s got ultra-slim LED taillights, which look gorgeous in my opinion (and probably everyone elses’).
The active aero obviously goes up on high speeds, and air brake (to improve braking of course), and makes the car look brilliantly amazing while doing so.
The whole car is one with the wind with all those curves! But the thing that completes it are those rims (19inches in the front, and 20inches in the rear) wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Tires.
675LT: The 675LT, a refined 650S, with more carbon, and more aero, the 675LT packs a punch with its looks, combining (what I would say) elegance, and deadliness. Inspired by the McLaren F1 GTR ‘Longtail’, the 675LT features striking carbon fibre bodywork that increases downforce by an astonishing 40% over any other model in the Super Series.
It’s equipped with the famous active-aero wing, that (also, like every other McLaren (MP4-12C - Present Time)) rises at high speeds, and also an air brake system which increases braking (like always).
The car sits on Pirelli P-Zero tyres as standard, but if you want more stickier tyres, then you can upgrade to the optional Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R. With rims being 19inches in the front, and 20inches in the rear.
You Have Reached The End! Congratulations!
Thank you for reading this (quite long) blog about the 720S and 675LT. Hope you enjoyed. But before I go, here’s a silly meme, and a video to look at on your way out. Cheers!
Power. A Beautiful Thing.

Ewan23 (The Scottish guy) Here it is! After hours of research and typing, it’s finally here! Thank you friend, for without you this blog post wouldn’t have been created! :)
Ayyy man brilliant blogpost thanks for making it, it really helped me have more of an understanding of both these amazing pieces of engineering, I would like to say also you are one of the nicest people on here too, and hey I couldn’t write anything as good as this, so massive congratulations to you my friend, and also one other thing, editors you know what to do, this deserves a editors pick asap
LT FTW
675lt all day
At the moment, I’d take the LT. That’s only because I’m used to it’s looks. I’m sure that in a year or two when I get used to seeing the 720S around and about, as you mentioned it can be used well as a daily, I believe I’ll like it more. But I’m not positive. Amazingly-well researched article, keep it up!
Thank you! The ideas aren’t quite easy, but I’ll do my best!
Do what you can. I like your writing style. :)
Ok never mind idk
Also great blog post
720s for me ;)
I choose the Honda Civic.
