1989 Acura Integra LS- A first car review
This is my first attempt at writing a review so please be patient. I will give you a little history of my car. It was bought new back in January of 1989 by my great grandma for a price of $15,900 ( $30,995 usd adjusted for inflation). For its entire life before i got a hold of it it braved the brutal salts of New England for 27 years. One day last year my Great Grandma decided that it was about time to stop driving and let the car sit in her garage. Around christmas of 2015 my mom began talking to me grandma and asking questions about what they were going to do with the little integra. My grandma informed her that she was most likely gonna scrap it so that’s when my mom popped the question. “chris is getting his licence soon why do you just give to him”. she said why not and that’s pretty much how i got it.
THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE- The driving experience was very different to what i was used to. I was used to driving big lumbering boats like our Tahoe and Trailblazer EXT. This was a lot different in my integra you sit basically on the ground with your feet straight out. The 118hp out of the 1.6l DOHC l-4 is one of those engines you have to wind out to get anywhere. The first time merging on the highway was a bit interesting… COMPLETELY pegged the 4-speed slushbox propelled me to 70mph with as much gusto as a slightly out of shape man running after a dog who has gotten away (slowly but surely and screaming the whole way). There is quite a bit of body roll since it’s running on the original struts (replacing them soon). It may be slow but it’s fun to put it in D2 and take it all the way to its 7200 rpm redline.
INTERIOR SPACE- NONE
To finish this review off i just want to say this is one of the best first cars a petrol head could ask for. For one it’s quite rare, and two i mean come on what’s not to love about it, and three it’s special to me because almost every member of my family has driven it at one point. my goal is to keep the car in the family and maybe one day who knows it might be my kids first car ( when that happens of course).
