How is the side impact safety so poor? Passenger would have been seriously injured if it was at road speed

probably just another case of crash safety tests not being accurate of real world accidents.

It’s a Shelby GT500. Not a Volvo GT500

a low riding sports car vs a pickup truck and you’re surprised by the result?

In a car-v-car accident, it wouldn’t have been so bad (Source: Was in an accident in a 2012 GT that got broadsided by a BMW that ran a red light). The problem in this situation was that the truck’s bumper hit the very top of the door and gave way, while the box ended up hitting directly above the door and crushing where there was less protection. It’s like those accidents you see where cars drive under the backs of school buses.

The expectation is that theyre only going to travel in a straight line ~ front and rear protection

The S80 Rallyist

And that’s another reason why you don’t do that. Not to mention you could get the police called on the meet, and have it shut down.

Why didn’t the side airbags deploy? And i didn’t realize how bad the side impact protection of the Mustang was!? ITS SCARY!!!

Probably because the passenger seat wasn’t occupied (luckily)

Right? Seriously I thought I was the only one appalled by how that performed in the accident. He couldn’t have been going that fast and the damage was incredible, the passenger would almost surely be dead. Shame on Ford.

Maybe a stupid question, but would this be covered by your insurance?

On the truck, yes. On the Mustang, no. Insurance doesn’t cover stupidity, I’d be surprised if they didn’t drop the dude.

Yeah I’m surprised no one knew already the Mustang had such bad side protection and that’s a lesson to be learned DODGE a RAM

The roof and B pillar can’t do anything against a vehicle of higher height. It would happen to ANY car whose crash didn’t involve the floorpan.
