The Last Ever Land Rover Defender Just Rolled Off The Production Line

The 2,016,933rd Land Rover Defender was built today, marking the end of an era for the old 4x4

It’s been around in one form or another for 68 years, over 2 million have been built, and hundreds of different weird and wonderful variants have been conceived. But since all things must come to an end, so too must production of the long-serving Land Rover Defender, with today being the day the very last one rolled off the production line at Solihull.

Defender number 2,000,000 was auctioned last year for £400,000

This is probably something that should have happened a long time ago - the Defender is a vehicle that’s hopelessly outdated, noisy and challenging to live with - but still, it marks the end of an era, so the fanfare at Solihull today is understandable. What’s particularly interesting about all this is that Land Rover still hasn’t figured out what to replace the thing with - it’ll be intriguing to see what the company can come up with in the next few years.

For now though, all eyes are on that very last model - number 2,016,933 - a Defender 90 in Heritage spec. Looks handsome, no?

I was expecting you to advertise in a hilarious way, perhaps, ‘Oh darn, your defender will only go up in value now, so why not protect it with Disklok UK?’

It’s a shame, the Defender was the only Land Rover I properly liked. Very sad to see it go. It shall be missed.

A shame, but it had to happen sooner or later.

In 2015 the last McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and LaFerrari, Bugatti Veyron and Mitsu Evo were made. But this is the car I’m going to miss the most.

Yes, a new defender is supposed to launch in 2018 with 5 body styles.
