The Audi RS5 Sportback Is Here At Last, But Only In Limited Numbers

The five-door Sportback version of the RS5 has finally reached the UK market, but only 250 will be sold in Audi Sport Edition trim before the car goes off sale in preparation for new emissions regs
The Audi RS5 Sportback Is Here At Last, But Only In Limited Numbers

The Audi RS5 Sportback was revealed way back in March 2018 and has been on sale in the US for some time. And yet, us Brits have been denied the RS5 coupe’s more practical sibling. That’s finally been rectified, but there’s a catch.

It’s all to do with the more stringent WLTP emissions cycle. Having taken the two-door RS5 coupe off sale last year for the fitting of a petrol particulate filter, it’s been brought back temporarily for a 250 unit run. At the same time, Audi has chosen to briefly introduce the RS5 Sportback with the same production limit.

Both are available exclusively in Audi Sport Edition trim, which means you get 20-inch anthracite wheels, tinted glass, various gloss black trim pieces and an Audi Sport exhaust system.

In the cabin, there’s a mix of Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery with diamond-stitched RS super sports seats. Audi Smartphone Interface, MMI navigation plus, blindspot monitoring, Parking System Plus, hill hold and a panoramic sunroof are all fitted as standard. TL;Dr - you won’t be wanting for stuff.

The coupe and Sportback are each powered by the same 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, which was co-developed with Porsche. It sends 444bhp out to all four wheels, allowing for a 0-62mph time of 3.9 seconds.

Whether you want a coupe or a Sportback, the price is the same - £68,985. The pair will return next year with petrol particulate filters, but neither will be available in Audi Sport Edition form. So if all of the above sounds like your bag, you’ll need to move fast.

The UK seems like a pretty bad place to be a car enthusiast at this point

High tax on performance cars
Noise tickets
High insurance (if you are a new driver)
And the list goes on

Minus the roads being completely unusable it’s a pretty great place to be a car guy. We get all the finest beater JDM imports plus we get all the musclecars from the states. We also don’t really get tickets for anything other than speeding and window tint.
