Organisers Of Swiss Hill Climb Handed £4k Fine For Hammond's Rimac Crash

Switzerland's national motorsport authority has fined the organisers of the Hemberg Bergrennen hill climb over the crash that left Richard Hammond with a fractured knee

Auto Sport Schweiz - Switzerland’s national motorsport authority - has not taken kindly to the organisers of the Hemberg Bergrennen hill climb. As a reminder, that’s the event at which Richard Hammond had his dramatic crash in a Rimac Concept One, leaving the presenter with a franctured knee. And as a result of the accident, the organisers have been slapped with a 5000 CHF (£4000) fine.

Hammond - plus his Grand Tour cohorts Jeremy Clarkson and James May - were taking part in demonstration runs separate to the competition, and according to Motorsport.com, Auto Sport Schweiz has ruled these went against the FIA’s international Sporting Code. The body also claimed that the runs were not in the interests of the sport.

In addition to the fine, the race director plus three stewards have been given six month license suspensions - suspended over six months. The high-profile crash - which resulted in the destruction of the Rimac electric hypercar - is thought to have put the future of the hill climb at risk.

It burned right next to a house. Plenty enough reasons to fine them imo

If you have ever been to Switzerland you will know why, i am slightly generalising but no one has a smile on their face and they are overly strict with the rules.

If you drive even slightly below the speed limits people start honking at you and giving you hand gestures. Switzerland is a beautiful country but same cant be said about the people….

Amazon did not organized the hill climb. And the race director and stewards don’t work for amazon either.

Also, what the hell does “not in the interests of the sport” mean? If there wasnt a crash, it would be great publicity for the hillclimb, which seems like the interests of the sport to me.

Not entirely sure this is true but I believe I saw somewhere that the run was purely because the gt director wanted a few more shots to use, he had already done several runs I believe. I don’t think that last run would have been part of the competition if that is true

They are going to have to start making more money! That isn’t enough to make an episode!

Wait…
6 months of suspension, suspended for 6 months.
So…nothing happens to their licenses at all, since the suspensions are suspended?

I heard they swapped the suspensions with coilovers so everything is okay, no worries!
