Having a project car as a teenager

I’m Primož and I’m 17years old. I come from Slovenia and I’m not one of those rich kids. Since I remember I’m in love with cars. My first memories are having those car toys and playing with them…so I always dreamed of owning a badass car. But when I was 14 my dreams of having a project car were becoming strong. Having a project car as a teenager is something a lot of petrolheads have dreamed of. It’s so hard to be underaged and not driving a car or owning one. But some of us are lucky enough to furfill our dreams by buying one even before we get the license. Last year I bought a BMW E30-my dream car.

In January I started the project. My goal was to remove all the rust on the car, swap the engine, paint it, new interior, lower it and make it fast. I just finished rust repair and I’m proud to say that I did it all by myself. It took me a lot of time to remove everything but it was worth it. Right now I’m in the middle of my project. Everything just stoped because I don’t have money. I still have to paint the car, swap the engine to 2.8 straight six from E36 and things like that but I just can’t because I don’t have the money for it. Things are hard for a teenager like me. I don’t have a job so I don’t really have all the money of the world. I have to earn every single euro with hard work. I don’t want my parents to give me the money to finish the car. I mean…where’s all the magic in that? But i’m not giving up…when I’m reading stories about people who finished their project cars I just want to be like them. I want to make myself proud with earning all the money and doing all the work by myself. A lot of people say that I’ll never finish the car, that my car is rubish and that I’m stupid because I put all my money in this car. But that’s what we do, right? We put our money in cars because we love them. We want to look at our cars and be happy and proud.

I want to inspire all petrolheads that want to own a project car. Yes sometimes you just want to burn the car to the ground…but then you realise that this is what makes you happy. Sure it takes all of your money and time but that’s not the point. You don’t care about that when the car is finished because when it is you realise that it was all worth it. Having a project car…to be exact-your dream car is one of the best feelings in the world so don’t be afraid to buy one. Just work hard for it. I’m sorry for grammar mistakes but I learned english pretty much by myself. Thanks for reading the full article and keep on building cars.

I know exactly how you feel. I’m 16 from Australia and I have a project NA6 mx-5 money and the fact that for a year your can’t drive without a licensed driver and Australia has very strict modification limits until they get they’re full license.
