Jesse's Jetta From The Fast And The Furious Just Sold For $42k

The VW Jetta driven by character Jesse in the first Fast and Furious film has just been auctioned off in Scottsdale

Owning a motorised piece of Fast and Furious memorabilia isn’t something that’s all that affordable. The orange Toyota Supra from the first film sold for $185,000, and the Nissan 350Z featured in Tokyo drift was up for grabs not so long ago for an even higher price. More than you can afford pal, in other words.

However, this car here - the VW Jetta driven by character Jesse, appearing in one scene with an apparent lack of front brake callipers - sold at Barrett Jackson’s Scottsdale auction on Thursday for a much more reasonable $42,000 (£29,400, brakes included).

The catch? Well, it’s not exactly a 10 second car, with a mostly standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine under the bonnet, hooked up to a humble four-speed automatic gearbox. However, it does come with signatures from Paul Walker, F&F director Rob Cohen and Chad Lindberg (who played Jesse, in case you’ve never heard of him).

Its most recent owner is former Malcolm In The Middle star Frankie Muniz - if that makes a difference - and there is also a Playstation 2 hooked up in the cabin for anyone wanting a semi-retro gaming fix…

Hope the auction comes WITH the brake calipers (how did they miss that when filming)

the ironic thing is it dis… It came with a full brembo bbk set, which were installed, so eitehr it isnt the Jetta we all know and love, or someone had two braincells to rub together when filming finished XD

More likely the carrier didn’t fit the hub

There’s 4 or 5 versions of each car, so it stands to reason that the race wars scene didn’t use the hero car.

It does.

Yup it has the calipers , but it has some extras like plastic fender arches , wich the movie one doesn’t have , and pirelli decals instead of Toyo ones :))) , so for 42k you get signatures, extra plastic , calipers and other decals

Still… $42k for a Jetta! Whatever floats your boat, but you need to be a) a hardcore fan, or b) too much money to even care and do it just for the lulz

Or for the show factor.

if I had a car collection in a show garage like some people do, this would be an unreal addition.

Is the new jetta any good? My dad wants to buy one. I suggested him the octavia. But he seems pretty much stuck with the jetta.

I think the Octavia is a much better choice. It’s a bit roomier, it’s pretty much the same underneath (shared platform and engine) as the Jetta, better value for money and better looking, feels a lot more modern. Plus, Skoda has been above VW on reliability surveys lately.
The Jetta might have marginally better interior plastics (big whoop), and, perhaps the aspect more to its favour, a better resale value.

Had a mk6 when my car was in the shop, it was a fairly nice car, especially for the base model (rental), pretty good standard options.

No, someone paid like $38,000 for it. Jettas aren’t free.
