Electric GT is looking to steal some of the Formula E hype and become the first all-electric GT series in the world.

The first season will begin later in 2017 with seven rounds and three non-championship races in the Americas. Now we’ve found out just what the Tesla Model S race car will be capable of.

Testing had been taking place with the Tesla P85 model of the electric saloon but it’s been upgraded to the Tesla Model S P100D ahead of the first season, boosting performance figures.

The Model S in Electric GT trim will generate a staggering 778bhp from the P100D’s dual motors (seen as one of the main reasons why EGT switched to it from the P85+).

It’ll also go from 0-60mph in an electrifying (sorry) two second - a bonkers figure and will surely make race starts epic to watch. Performance over the regular P100D has been improved further by a huge amount of weight reduction (bro) - reportedly 500kg has been shifted by completing stripping out the cars.

The power unit is the same from the P100D - the only modifications are through weight loss inside the car, racing brakes, suspension and Pirelli slick tyres.

There’s also, of course, the new racing aero package, roll cage and that monstrous rear wing too. It’s one rapid racing machine and a looker too. We’re intrigued to see how Electric GT will fare when it arrives later in the year with its rookie season.

20 drivers and 10 teams will compete, with a few drivers already joining the ‘Electric GT Driver’s Club’ (Formula E did something similar ahead of its first season too).

The seven European races will take place at the Nurburgring (Germany), Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (Spain), Mugello (Italy), Brands Hatch (UK), Zandvoort (Netherlands), Estoril (Portugal) and Paul Ricard (France).

Race weekends will feature a 20-minute practice session, 30 minutes to qualify and two 60km races of electric GT-car action, one in the day and one at dusk (we can’t wait to see those photos!).

It’ll be streamed on YouTube, Twitch and Periscope too, so perfectly accessible and free to watch. Just what we like to hear!

So if they were to compete in endurance races, they could just let the car drive itself while the drivers rest, that cheating?

It was made by Campos Racing in Spain, ive been following the process closely, the most hard thing to do was the weight reduction, te bateries and cables are heavy.
PS: The dashboard tablet stays.

One of the thins that i don’t like recently about car throttle news is that these stupid electric puns are more important than a comment like this that is about cars and the news itself…

Sleek body, big wang, lightweight wheels with grippy tires… It all looks like a good recipe for a racecar, but without proper sound it will be no fun to watch
