4 Really Annoying Car-Related Movie Mistakes

Most of you probably remember when in the 2nd episode of the new Top Gear season, Chris Harris pointed out some car related mistakes in movies. Although it was made for laughs, I couldn’t agree more with him. Sure, nowadays it’s extremely hard to find a film with no goofs, but some of these minor mistakes could have been avoided, if a movie director had hired someone who knows something about cars. That’s why I decided to make this list of 4 annoying mistakes in a big budget Hollywood movies. So now, let’s get ready for some serious nitpicking!

1. Windshield shattering into tiny pieces

At the end of Transporter 3, Jason Statham makes a huge jump in his black Audi and crashes it into a moving train to fight the main villain. If this stunt doesn’t sound weird enough, then get ready because something even worse happens during this scene. As he crashes into the back of a moving train, front windshield shatters into pieces. Like… seriously, how?! It may sound like I’m nitpicking too much, but if you think about it, there’s no way it could happen in real life. As most of you probably know, all modern cars have their windshields made of laminated glass.
Sure, you can smash it or make a hole in it, but you just can’t make it shatter like a jar or an empty bottle.

2. Wrong car model

Oh, God. This is probably the worst mistake you can ever make while directing a movie. Fast Five is the perfect example here. If you have seen this movie, you probably remember the scene where the main characters steal four 2011 Dodge Chargers pursuit vehicles from a police parking lot. Two of them are later modified and used in the most ridiculous scene in the whole movie. Scene, where Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are trying to escape a chase with a giant vault attached to their customized cars. That awful mistake is very easy to spot. 2011 Chargers were replaced by the earlier models. You can easily tell it by the taillights.

3. Ripping off doors.

This happens very often in many action films/comedies. We’ve seen it many times. The main character leaves the door open and then a big truck/van/SUV approaches and immediately rips them off from hinges in a very spectacular manner. It looks cool on a big screen, but in real life it’s not so simple.

... OK, maybe unless your name is Arnold Schwarzenegger

4. Wrong use of engine sounds/shifting gears while driving in reverse

If I were Jeremy from CinemaSins, I would add 1,000 sins for this awful mistake. You can spot it in the movie Drive in a scene where Ryan Gosling’s character is chased by a Chrysler 300c. While he drives a stolen Mustang GT in reverse you can briefly hear a sound of a car going forward and yeah… I didn’t made it up – gear shifts. That’s a perfect example of how one bad scene can ruin a nearly perfect film. For this reason I gave it 9 stars instead of 10 on IMDb

That's all. Thanks for reading!

So these were the 4 mistakes that I find annoying in some movies. I hope you enjoyed this list. If I accidentally made some mistakes in this blog post, let me know and I’ll try to edit them before they make it to the final cut.

Off-topic but I need to explain.
Why those movies think that petrol can be exploded by guns?

I think Mythbusters have proven that it can, but air-fuel ratio must be high. (The tank should be almost empty)

Talking about Fast and Furious, the guys never stop to fill their car with petrol.

Maybe all the cars in the F&F series were electric/hybrid and the sounds were fake 😂😂

Blitz

The hitman movie that came out a year or so ago and they were attempting to get away in a Red Audi (cant remember the model). The villains were shooting at their rear bumper and sparks were flying everywhere and it left a metallic crown around each bullet hole…bumpers are plastic.

My worst pep peeve with movies is when a car goes from automatic to manual then back to auto. Movie “magic” at work. A good example of this happening is in the Goonies.

On the Apex

Also, the classic shoot-gas-tank-for-explosion scene, which is painstakingly repeated in these films

Don’t forget that all cars are always evenly matched, and reverse is as fast as 3rd gear in every single car.

Another thing in Fast Five is that in the heist scene, when Brains Dodge rams into the Motorbike, the rider flys into the windscreen causing a massive dent, but from the next scene omwards, its completly fine! Unless the car’s Christine, i hqve no idea what to say to that!

Another last one was on this movie on netflix i watched called born to race, where in the final drag race, the 2011 Mustang the hero races against, which when it flips in mid air tuens into a prefacelift 2005 mustang!

Another weird thing!

Actually, it’s not a mistake. If you look closely, he hits a parked black Lincoln Town Car. Because of quick editing it really looks like he damaged Brian’s Dodge.

Speaking about wrong car models in movies, you reminded me about chase from Ride Along 2, where BMW E92 suddenly changes into E46
