Your First Look At The 2019 Subaru Forester Is This Shadowy Teaser

Ladies and gentlemen: pray silence please, for the fifth-generation Subaru Forester. Well, part of it - what you’re looking at is one of those darkened, heavily-cropped teaser images showing us a light cluster, a badge, and…not much else.

But, Subaru has given us a debut date - the all-new Forester will says its grand hello to the world at the New York Auto Show on 28 March, during a press conference that’ll kick off at 13:45 Eastern.

Beyond that, we don’t know much, but expect the next Forester to have a range of ‘boxer’ flat-four engines, each hooked up to a CVT gearbox. There probably won’t be a diesel version though, with Subaru previously hinting that it would soon drop oil burners from the range.

The 2019 Forester was kinda/sorta previewed by the angular Viziv Future concept back in 2015, but expect the production version to be quite a bit more restrained. We’re talking about a few retained styling cues (we can already see that the rear light clusters have carried over the c-shape motif), rather than simply the car you see above with normal wing mirrors and less spangly wheels. A shame, but there’s no harm in crossing our fingers in the hope for something more dramatic…
