I went to a go kart place when I was like 13 and there was a tight hairpin towards the end you had to brake for, and while I braked the 20 something year old a**hat decided that hitting me would slow him down enough. The rear end of my kart somehow jumped up, I ended up in the wall across from me, and I had whiplash for 2 weeks. All the guy got was a warning…

As a 10 year experience karting marshal, I can tell you that this happens far more often than you would think.
First time, and nervous, karters go full “Deer in the headlights” at times. Their brains lose all logic, and instead of going for the brake they just keep the throttle pinned and the wheel straight (Even from half way around the corner sometimes). I’ve seen karts buried under tire walls, break walls entirely and stop outside of circuit boundaries, mount other karts, and drivers being ejected from karts.
Honestly, after enough years, and seeing enough crashes, you get to a point where you see the crash starting from the way the kart behaves, and you just calmly wait for the bang.
