Watch Carlos Sainz Crash Out Of A Dakar Stage And Into A Ravine

Terrifying footage shows the moment Sainz dramatically crashed out of the 2017 Dakar rally, narrowly avoiding two spectators in the process

We didn’t particularly need more proof that the Dakar Rally is not to be messed with , but here’s some anyway.

Two time WRC champion and 2010 Dakar Winner Carlos Sainz crashed out of the Jujuy-Tupiza stage and into a ravine yesterday, narrowly missing two spectators precariously positioned on the edge of the dirt road.

We’re guessing the footage below was shot by one of the said spectators, and it makes for sphincter-tightening viewing.

Remarkably, Sainz and co-driver Lucas Cruz were able to get the stricken Peugeot 3008DKR back to the service area, but the car was deemed unrepairable and has now been retired.

OK, the only thing I can conclude now is that Carlos Sainz is seriously cursed. Ever since he came to Dakar in 2006, he was always among the fastest (if not the fastest), and apart from the 2010, he would always suffer a glitch.
And not only in Dakar, but throughout his entire career, he had some miserable, piss poor luck (1998, anyone?).

Why do spectators continue to stand on the outside of corners? Not that I want cars to crash into them, but there are safer options with equally good views.
