The trouble with having a flashy, powerful car - particularly one that’s finished in a conspicuous colour - is that you attract rather a lot of attention if something goes wrong. Just take this as an example: at the weekend, a German driver managed to lose control of his Audi R8 V10 Plus in the Netherlands on Sunday, and now we’re all enjoying this video of his stricken car being pulled out of a river.

Thankfully, after plunging into the river near Loenersloot, the driver was able to escape the vehicle. He wasn’t injured in the accident. After warming up after his chilly dip in the water, he was taken to his hotel in Vinkeveen.

The car wasn’t so lucky. While it doesn’t look to have suffered any obvious exterior damage, being submerged in water for a few hours is almost certainly going to have killed off any chance of an economical repair.

Those wheels are indeed very good looking. Nice for an RS6 or so.

“Single Owner, 2017 R8. Only driven on weekends, stored in secret underwater facility for safe keeping. Nicely optioned, asking for fair $170k. No low ballers, no trades.”
